Problem with Newer Heavier Progressive Bands

I feel like when I go see local bands and they have this amazingly large following and they suck major butt I feel like my efforts are being undermined. It takes me 9 to 10 HOURS to write a song because of the level of thought and complexity that I put into it.

 

If you are a musician that puts love and hard work into your music, you are going to be undermined THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. There will ALWAYS be some horrible band that's doing better. Just face this fact and screw the thought of "fans" and "love" all together. Make the BEST DANG music possible that you can make and when your life is over you can look back and be WAYWAYWAY PROUD of what you did.

If your goal in life is to be famous and get your d1ck sucked by hordes of fangirls then I understand your frustration. But that is not my goal, and it shouldn't be yours, so don't worry about it. Eventually the world will catch on. Look how long it took Tim Smith and the Cardiacs to actually get noticed. He has been making music since 1977.

See, I'm in a mathcore band. We change signatures like every 4 measures haha. So like Moly said, when my efforts are undermined by these other bands, it ticks me off. 

That's it exactly. I mean, its a little insulting to say the least. And I think they're just emulating bands to broaden their listener base like you said.
