Be careful about listening music 12hr per day in headphones.
It can affect your hearing ability in a long term I love listening music but I love my ears too. so I restrict myself to listening music not more than 4 hours in a day in headphones (I have moderately priced Gemini DJX-05 on my work ) The worst thing is listening in headphones in very noisy environment, like subway/metro train. It forces you to set volume to very loud/extreme values, which can be not noticeable because of overall noisy environment Edited by awaken77 - September 29 2011 at 02:31 |

But I mean, I've tried to prepare. I've read dozens of reviews on those. Read discussion counting hundred posts in one e-shop (czech). They have perfect sound, but they're perhaps not from that good materials. Anyway, I spent $60 for them, I'm not going to let it go down the drain and buy new ones. Not because I don't have have money, but because of principle. I made the choice, I'll get used to it. Next time, perhaps $100 ? |

There are good headphones in every price range. In my case, even though I have no money whatsoever, since headphones are absolutely essential for me to listen to music, I invested a lot in some really really good ones. But any decent Grado , Sennheiser or Audio-technica should do just fine. Of course, avoid hyped sh*t like Beats or Bose.

That's kind of funny, the right phone of my Grado's, which are my best set, Consumer Reports recommended, came off the metal bar that attaches it to the headband. Fourtunately, I can stick it back on, but it doesn't stay on if I move too much. I didn't know Windows 7 had that feature. I've never used the headphones with this thing.

After these few months, I can say some things - Creative Aurvana Live headphones have the finest sound I've ever heard. Especially after I found out that there is an option in Windows 7 (click on systray sound icon - settings of effects) that boosts basses, adds surround effect. Of course, I don't want these idiocies, but i F-ING DIDN'T know that such thing was in place there. It was turn on by default. I turned off equalizer in Winamp, I turned down all these b*****ds. Result - terrific natural sound. There is a problem though with these phones. Left headphone snapped. It broke in the weakest spot, where only flimsy plastic , about 5mm in radius, holds it. It's right in the spot where the bridge connects to the "dish", in the place where you can turn dish left and right. They still play good, I just had to make makeshift holding on the head. Warranty is void though, they said it's a mechanical damage. b*****dS - It's not my problem that the joint is so weak and possibly wrongly manufactured. |

this. but its a 180$ one. From the price range and the ones Ive tried, the AKG k240s is great, or the grado SR60 or SR80 if you dont mind the isolation being null. I personally liked better the SR60, 80 was too bassy for me. if you dont mind a no branded, Superlux HD668b is great, at only 60$ it even trow some serious punches to the K240, except in comfort. If you could get the ATH M50 at that price, I dont personally like it but it has a lot of followers and sure fits in all your demands the isolation kill them all but the HD25, see this thread and check out the final comparisson table: |

These are the headphones I use, which are ridiculously expensive by the standards of most of this site

These are the headphones I use:
A little expensive, though. At the time, they cost $130, but I haven't regretted it at all. They aren't supposed to be able to cancel noise, and they don't all the way, but they do a pretty good job of it along with having an awesome range. My Porcupine Tree albums and the rest of my collection for that matter sound phenomonal on these.

These may have already been brought up, but I use Sennheiser's HD280 Pro, which are some of the best studio headphones out there. They may be just a bit more expensive than you like (prices range from $80-100 depending on the store), but they're well worth the price. I've had mine for probably 4 or 5 years without a hitch - perfectly balanced, wonderful quality - the whole shabang.

I love my Creative Aurvana Live headphones. They have great clear sound, I use them for recording, mixing and just listening to my Mp3 player. They have good bass, not booty bass, but clear lows, mids and highs. They don't give me ear fatigue like some cheaper over ears either. They aren't the best headphones you can get, but they certainly are very nice.
Just please, DON'T buy skull candy. |

I can't stand ear buds. Won't wear 'em. I got a pair of Sennheiser HD-202's to use with my Sony Walkman mp3 player on walks, and have been very pleased for the last six months. Nice bass response, crisp highs and they won't break your budget. They are comfortable as well, very light weight, although your ears can get hot in warm weather.

Thanks avant man, good to hear such words from you. I'm happy with them, that's for sure. Not sure how much of it is placebo effect, but as long as it works, I'm fine with it. |

As long as they sound good and you are happy with the purchase, it doesn't really matter how they compare to other cans. Glad you found something that works for you.

Well, I'm sadly not audiophile and cannot compare these with others mid-price range headphones (they cost $60 on Amazon, they cost $60 in Czech R. as well), but if you just want my brutally honest amateur opinion, then they sound effing great. I've read in one Czech review that he was listening a movie with these headphones and he actually heard hissing noise in background. He made a theory that the film was so badly encoded, that good phones captured the bad sound and let it be known. I didn't try films yet though. Music sounds well, I've tried them with big range of Prog subgenres and so far the only bad sounding was weirdly captured mp3's of my Caravan (particularly song "And I Wish I Were Stoned"), because I in my past foolishness artificially edited the song in editor and raised volume. It sound like sh_t now. I was especially happy with Moon Safari's Blomljud music, because their songs are full of instrument harmonies. SOME old unmastered albums sound kind of "lifeless" though. Bacamarte's first album is perfect example of songs where every instrument sound "loud" and "prominent" as it should be. I don't need to use equalizer anymore, it all sound great without it. Just to let you know, I finally choose these: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-EF0060-Aurvana-Live-Headphones/dp/B000ZJZ7OA I've read few dozens of reviews and opinions and their positives were very good. Disadvantages includes sweaty ears (can stand it) and bad portability (can stand it). I also choose them because they were in local shop, so in case of faults, I can easily use my warranty. |

The bad thing is that some headphones cost more on amazon and some cost much less on amazon than in Czech shops. What can be $150 here can cost $400 here, while some $100 can cost $50 here. This factor changes it all. In a bad way. |

The Klipsch S4 is a good earphone to start out with. Or the Panasonic HJE900, that might be a little over $80, but the little extra is worth it.
