Magma of course... Koenjihyakkei maybe if they had some meaning and mythology behind their lyrics. What are their songs even about?

Magma. Second choice would be "other"- Ruins, just slightly ahead of Koenjihyakkei and Eskaton.

Weidorje without any doubt, even if it might be one of the least zeuhl albums in the zeuhl genre I really love it, Weidorje together with Magma's K.A. is in my opinion the two Zeuhl Masterpieces. Which is not the most pure Zeuhl album either, maybe it's not my genre. Either way, my vote goes for Weidorje.

I agree that it would be more interesting without Magma, because no Magma = no Zeuhl, plus no other band in the genre has released as many good quality albums. If Magma were excluded it would be between Zao and Koenjihyakkei for me.

Pretty much everything else that's called Zeuhl (expect for maybe Yoshi's Zeuhl bands) is RIO/Avant.

Magma is avant-prog too. All Zeuhl is just a particular style of avant-prog.
|
Indeed, but only Magma truly fulfills the supposed sylistic requirements of Zeuhl.

Yeah but that's normal for a genre. Think of Symphonic. Genesis doesn't have the intense interplay moments of Yes. Yes doesn't have Genesis' pastoral touch. Neither have the classically inspired part of Focus or ELP, or the avantgarde inspiration of After Crying. Harmonium has only one of the aspects noted so far. But they're all essential Symphonic. There's rarely a genre where one band has all the essential features, and that probably happens only when it's a genre defined after a particular band (like Zeuhl).

Magma is a great band , saw them on stage many times in france but the only problem is that Vander and Blasquiz thought to be the only band on earth, and i'm sure it's not the case...........

I think were Magma not here my next choice would be Weidorje, then Dun, Eskaton and Shub-Niggurath. I never really got into Koenji

This poll would be more interersting if Magma were excluded. I like all the groups listed but like that Dun album the least.

Magma, easy. As much as I like other Zeuhl bands, Magma is in their own league.
