Actually if I remember the little logic I once learned then Tamijo is right ! The if X then Y is not a valid logical argument.
And, I realy like early DS (especialy Communiquq, Making movies and Love over gold) and I think ther are a nice blues-rock band although "Romeo and Juliet" is more a broken heart song than a love song.
However, we should draw the line somewhere and I think DS is on the other side of that line. Of corse nothing will happen if they get included but if we continue this way logicaly we will come to the point where Olivia Newton John will be proposed (and as Tamijo tried to say gently, this is a nightmare !).

Just to make the X & Y thing clear.
I do offcourse agree with the if X is Heavy metal, then Y is Heavy metal too.

Not the if Black S. is Progressive Dire S. is progressive too, they are hardly the most comparable bands,
taken, style, time, and a lot of other stuff into consideration.

As said before, they should be progressive in there own right. If they are not, no reason to include them just because you think other bands do not deserve to be here either.
Prog is whatevey you want it to be. So dont diss other peoples prog, and they wont diss yours

Neither a relationship. However it's just my opinion.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

And then some.

"Telegraph Road" is a nice long song.  Nice long songs are not necessarily progressive.

I know they're not 100% progressive, but they are more progressive than some bands that do appear in PA, like Black Sabbath.

Sorry but I totally disagree.
Sabotage IS PROG. So I disagree, too. Then if we want to look for discutible inclusions, those mentioned by Snow Dog at the beginning of the thread are enough, IMO.

BUT, my stomach churns and I cringe when I get reminded about how cheesy and downright bland their image and music was at the end. That includes some of Duke and the whole of their last five albums. That for me makes an inclusion of Genesis here difficult to say at least.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  Evil Smile

Pick Withers was in Spring and Magna Carta of course, so he's already here.  Hal Lindes is on several of Fish's albums.  Terry Williams came from Man.  Guy Fletcher has appeared with both Roxy Music and with Phil Manzanera as a solo act.  Even Mark Knopfler appeared on a Steely Dan album (I apologize if someone already mentioned these).

And considering Knopfler had quite a talent for making blues guitar sound like high-brow art on the band's first few albums, it seems to me that Dire Straits fit the definition of 'Prog-related' quite well, especially since several members of that band both influenced and carried on the prog torch before and after their involvement with the band.

Saw Dire Straits live in 1987

They were never prog nor prog related even back then. Private Investigations was as close as they got. The ALBUMS were not prog, maybe the live material was related but none of the albums.

I really loved the band at one stage

Perhaps Mark Knoffler could be considered - he did an album with Chet Atkins too.
I just think the band are really a good pop band with some good ideas, nothing prog.
