I will always have a soft spot for Collins music because he was one of the first artists I was exposed to when I was a toddler when my mother had cassettes of both his solo albums and Genesis ones. All I can say is that at least we have the music to listen to still even if this is the end of the road as it will always be a part of my childhood even if never saw him live.

I saw his notalagic lounge lizard act on PBS,
Sorry but he can't appeal to the baby boomer grannys as Rod Stewart does, and he won't make any money at it. Edited by SMSM - March 10 2011 at 17:16 |

Yeah, but not only is Collins Moon dead, his Entwistle is dead and he is like 60 years old. Oh wait, the Who kept past that too.... ![]() |

I don't think Phil's closing the door forever, he wants to raise his kids---and I think it's rather silly to announce retirement---Bruford is a case in point--he was in great shape and so many jazz drummers work into their 70's--so when he stopped it fueled speculation something was wrong---just stop playing and doing gigs---don't announce anything---you never know an opportunity may come your way that will get you playing again--Like the Red line-up for Bill or the Seconds Out line-up for Phil. LOL

Greetings to all, I've decided to write this in response to the articles that surfaced last weekend regarding my retirement. Why they were printed at all is a mystery, as I haven't spoken to anybody in the press for a few months. However, many of the articles printed over the last few months have
ended up painting a picture of me that is more than a little distorted.
Therefore, I would like to add my comments and try to explain again my
reasons for calling it a day. 1/ I'm not stopping because of dodgy reviews or bad treatment in the press. 2/ I'm not stopping because I don't feel loved, I know I still have a very large fanbase that loves what I do. Thank you. 3/ I'm not stopping because I don't fit in, this was proved with "Going Back" reaching No 1 in the UK, and doing incredibly well worldwide. 4/ I'm not stopping so I can dive full time into my interest for the Alamo. I am stopping so I can be a full time father to my two young sons on a daily basis. Some of the things mentioned above have been said by me in various interviews, but said as asides with a smile on my face and in passing. They were not meant to be "headlines", they were small parts of a conversation. This clearly doesn't come over in print and I should know better. However, the result is that I have ended up sounding like a tormented weirdo who thinks he was at the Alamo in another life, who feels very sorry for himself, and is retiring hurt because of the bad press over the years. None of this is true. Thanks for all your messages on the Forum regarding this stuff, it means a lot that you care.

He IS retired. Official....from the horse's mouth. Just not for any of the crazy reasons put forth by journalists.
Here is Phil's message to the fans, but yes, he is done. http://www.philcollins.com/us/news/breaking-news-message-phil |

Many members of great 70's bands have felt the itch to reunite when they were about 60 years old in the past few years.

that would be so amazing and Hackett's live playing has been so great lately----it seems Steve and the long time fans deserve it (but don't get your hopes up as his royal highness Anthony Banks has said he would only do a tour with Hackett if Gabriel was also involved, which is unlikely)

1. If this is some sort of elaborate hoax to raise his dwindling noughties profile, he's clearly still full of the same s.h.i.t he's been peddling for years
2. If he has genuine mental issues then I do naturally sympathise and wish him a speedy recovery and an even speedier retirement. |

Just read some new news---His people just announced he IS NOT retiring ---he is on a hiatus and will return---he needs a long rest to heal and be with his kids----so, the statement he made was some kind of misunderstanding---or some kind of mistake.

This man is not depressed. He's been in the studio, released an album, touring, doing interviews while looking in good shape. He has a strong ego/personality and better be saying what he is saying to align with reality. And, he's got a strong sense of humour.
