Er, you must be thinking of another track, Easy ol' chum. "Los Endos" is on A Trick of the Tale, not Duke.
(I agree with your choice, though.)
|
Another "Thick as a brick" moment for me Peter, they're getting more frequent these days!
The track I meant was Duke's Travels/Dukes End, I do like the way the "Guide vocal" is revived in that track.

Quite correct Sir Rideout. But no matter how hard one tries, II + V + IV can never add up to 11 in music.

I liked your picks as well. Collins over White, AGREED. PC's Brand X work is stunning. Wouldn't you like to hear Peter Gabriel and Jon Anderson together. |
Well, Collins is a great drummer, sometimes underrated because of his cheasy work in the 3 men Gensis, but stunning as a drummer. He has a jazzy edge very pleasent to listen.
Would be nice to listen Gabriel and Anderson together because both cover al the ranges from low to high vocals, but my dream has always listen something with Gabriel and Annie Hasslam together.

Now compare players: (only the classic line-ups to save time)
(Voice) Peter Gabriel - Jon Anderson (Gabriel by a mile)
(Bass) Mike Rutherford - Chris Squire (Duh - Squire, AGREE)
(Guitars) Steve Hackett - Steve Howe (EVEN - Just don't let 'em record together AGREE)
(Drums) Phil Collins - Bill Bruford (silly proghole - drums are for Bill) But, Collins VS White?: COLLINS !!!!!!! (White played more years and albums than Bruford)
(Keys) Tony Banks - Rick Wakeman (Wakeman for a solo but Banks for a band)

I also understand the Banks/Wakeman choice. Banks played great atmospherics, Wakeman always seemed to be bidding time until his next chance to rip it up. Great musicians all.

That's a relief! I don't need Putin or any old ex-KGB, grudge-holding psychotic Smirnoff-breathed Moscow mafia hit-men coming after me.
(Crazed young death-metal fans give me enough grief !) (long story!)
Well, great minds have similar tastes, I'm also modest as you see |
There's an old English expression: "Great minds think alike -- fools seldom differ."
I wonder which is the case with us?

LMAO
Not the first time somedy says something like this, they asked me if I'm from Bulgaria or Russia for example, I'm from Perú and my mom is an an admirer of late 1800's Russian Music and Art, so she named me Iván.
No relation with USSR LOL
Your tastes coincide with mine -- but it's just a exercise in amusement, of course.... |

Aren't these types of polls a little like the old "apples and oranges" axiom? For example, what does the word "best" mean here? I'm not trying to be contrary, but you might as well ask me if I like Mozart better than Beethoven. Both wrote "classical" music, both were geniuses, both influenced others. But ultimately they wrote different - but equally good - music.
Peace.

Well, like I said in another poll, I use to put the words "worst" or "best" just like a guide. I think that a poll, doesn't matter the thread, is just another way to get fun and to know what people (prog people in this case) thinks about some topics. "Between Genesis or Yes" is one more poll. Of course, both bands were great, but all human beings have our own preferences, about Ford & Chevrolet, Bach & Vivaldi or apples & oranges . Next time, I'll change the subject: "Do you like this band or cd more than the other?"

Let's assign numerical values to everything, line it all up, and eliminate that which doesn't measure up! Let the chips fall where they may, proclaim I!
After all, music is really just math at its root, isn't it? We simply have to arrive at the proper formula with which to rate it....
Wait! The accountants at the record companies and radio stations have already done that!
You would lead us further down a dark path, my friends.
