I enjoyed Burton early on with Beetlejuice and Ed Wood, but his dependence on Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter as characters in nearly every thing he makes has gone past the point of annoyance.
That reminds me of another director who relies on a "stable" of actors and actresses: David Lynch.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Definitely Gilliam. Brazil and Time Bandits are 2 all time favorites and many of his other films are just amazing too.

I adore Brazil.  That and Kubrick's Clockwork Orange were my two pillars of films.  So Gilliam it is, but I do like various Tim Burton films very much. 

I haven't seen Parnassus. One to look for.

Both have made distinctive and eye-popping movies.  Gotta give it to Gilliam though.  He puts so much craft and attention into his pictures, while Burton seems to just grind them out.

Tim Burton would be my favourite but I do do love Terry Gilliam's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Gilliam although I did find Ed Wood to be a vastly underrated movie.

To be fair, no version of Alice has ever been a patch on the books. Also Burton does a "return to Wonderland" so it's bound to be different. All in all I like his version....visually its the best......but its a good film rather than excellent....imo.

I like them both. They are 2 of the most original directors and have unique vision and takes on things. Scary, but I actually understand some of Gilliam's movies!

Burton becasue I cant understand Gilliams '12 Monkeys'
