Akerfeldt, Wilson and Portnoy? I don't think so.
This sounds like a one time money grabber. Portnoy does not fit in with these guys.
Just my 2c. |
I honestly don't even see Portnoy being involved in this, what with being with Avenged Sevenfold now.

I guess we don't want to overhype it too much, and there probably is a bit of pressure on the group, but with the quality of the output from Wilson and Akerfeldt lately, it is pretty much guaranteed to at least be interesting.

Tony Levin? Yeah I like him as much as the next guy but such a predictable choice.
If we're going with a stick player I'd rather see someone like Trey Gunn. One of the best stick players and probably needs the work more. | I guess you're right, Trey does need the work. Tony's always busy doing something these days, and I'm not sure if S. Wilson has worked with Trey recently or ever, but I know he has with with Tony.

Oh, he's friends with all the DT guys, no doubt. But you can be honest enough with your friends to say that you're not into their main musical project. In fact, I would venture to guess that some of the guys in DT may not really dig Wilson's style, either. Mike does I'm sure, because Mike likes pretty much anything. Not sure about the other guys, though. |
IIRC Portnoy and Rudess are fans of PT. Don't know about the other guys.

So I'm assuming Akerfeldt on guitar, Swilson on keys and Portnoy on drums. So who's playing bass? This is important.
I guess it could also be Mikael on bass and Swilson on guitar. But Akerfeldt is clearly the better guitarist. And I certainly wouldn't want to hear Swilson on the bass.
I nominate Jonas Renske. He was great in Bloodbath.
Edit: Also, I really hope it's Mikael on lead vocals, and Swilson on backing vocals, and not the other way around.
Also, they should get Dan Swano involved somehow.

Now, a jazzy Wilson/Akerfeldt/Rudess/Carey collaboration would be incredible.

He's actually literally said that he's not into DT. |
Wilson has worked with Jordan Rudess, though.

I'm excited about this.
Isn't it going to be called PAW? (Portnoy, Akerfeldt, Wilson)
