Kid A is a brilliant album. It's been growing on me a lot recently after repeated listenings with friends (maybe thats why...). The more I've listened the more I have appriciated it.

I like  humour, I often don't get it, but it's the attempt that matters

Is it just me or has the level of intelligence on this forum dropped significantly recently?

And the really stupid ones say things like the title of this thread.

What are you trying to prove? What point are you trying to make?

Who cares that you don't like a particular band or album - especially when you can't even justify why that should be except in pathetic terms like "Dude, they're boring".

This is just low grade trolling, IMO.

Radiohead sucks.  There, I said it.

Pain of Salvation sucks.  There, I said it.

Kaada/Patton was an interesting project and had more variation than anything I have ever heard from the other two bands that I said suck.
Coalinga knows how to party.

I can't give an opinion about Pain of Salvation since I haven't tried their music for myself; sorry.

Pain Of Salvation suffers from the same thing that DT does. The excess of "Genesis-esque" and "Yes-esque" passages. Not that cheesy at all. Worth checkin if you're in Prog Metal.

Instead, I would recommend Kaada and Patton album, if you like beautiful songs. Fantastic!
And above all, is punk

Likewise, FloydWright

Unfortunately, as Grandma used to say, "It takes all
types to make a world." Courtesy is not necessarily
the rule, especially in the anonymity of cyberspace.
It's like driving, people's jerk tendencies come out
when there's some metal between you and them.

BTW, speaking of prog metal, is Pain of Salvation
any good?...I've feared it might be cheeze or overly
pompous or pretentious...is it worth a shot?
Samples just don't give me a feel for it.

Heptade--From a prog-metal fan, that's a good attitude and I respect it. I'd be glad if there were many more of you on this site.

There are genres of prog that I don't like, but I hold back my comments because I know the fans of those genres wouldn't appreciate it if I ripped into them. In fact, I've actually tried to keep quiet which genres those are.

Exactly. The prog umbrella seems pretty big (at least on this site). There
are bound to be differences of opinion, but one man's trash is another
man's treasure. Try to understand and tolerate that other man! I don't
personally like prog-metal (still stuck on Maiden!), so I don't comment on
it- why should I? To denigrate someone else's tastes? What kind of person
am I if I enjoy doing that?

That's not directed at anyone in particular...

And yarstruly, given your tastes, I'm not sure Radiohead's for you,
although OK Computer is very cinematic in scope and atmospheric, and
has some good melodies on it. You could try that one.

Oh yeah and there is NO best band ever...that's subjective. All great
bands put out a crap album or two if they're around long enough.

So time-signature changes are the only thing that can possibly make music interesting? I'm sorry, that's absolutey ridiculous and somehow I doubt even you can truly mean that in all its implications.

In many places, Kid A IS a more atmospheric album than anything, but that does not automatically make it "bad"--it just means you don't like more ambient types of music.

I think a lot of people around here need to figure out that an album is not always "bad" just because it doesn't suit their taste, AND that others who genuinely LIKE something that you don't are not lesser proggers than you are. This attitude is extremely pompous and tiring to see over and over again. I don't care for the Radiohead trashing OR the progmetal trashing. I like both and frankly, I think some people do it here just for the sake of looking cool in front of everybody else. Others may have a genuine dislike but find the most obnoxious ways to express it.

There's plenty of great musicality in there - you just haven't got it yet. You obviously haven't heard real experimental stuff like the work of the composers Karlheinz Stockhausen, Arnold Schoenberg or Harrison Birtwhistle.

radiohead try to be experimental for the sake of experimental.

That's a stinky generalisation - and not true. It's very experimental, but they created the music they wanted to create - as I said, you just don't understand it.

All this nonsense about time changes being the only thing that's interesting is codswallop. Interest is where you find it. If you don't find it here, move on and come back later!

"...We kill what we fear and we fear what we don't understand..." (Genesis).

Well personally when a drummer sits there and doesn't utilise the whole kit and sticks to a straight beat of 4/4 the whole time it bores me! But there you go it is all a matter of OPINION!

I truly wouldn't come back later to Radiohead unless someone paid me a load of money and they are thoroughly depressing!

I like Kid A although generally I don't like ''experimental music''.This album though does it for me.If it's not your cup of tea then fine but I don't hear too many mainstream artists taking risks like Radiohead did with this album.Kudos to them for producing something that is both musically coherent and ORIGINAL.

I hope Kid A bashers don't like Faust, because that's pretty much the
template for what Radiohead did on those two albums. Radiohead seems
to polarize people around here, but the fact that there are progressive
influences on their music is undeniable.

Anyway, I like Kid A just fine. Kudos to any band that goes from a silly
pop tune like "Creep" to forging a genuine musical identity in just a few
years, whether its your cup of tea or not.
