Topic: Star Wars or Lord of the Rings Posted: October 12 2009 at 02:34 |
This reminds me of the DT v Maiden poll in a way.
LoTR by a long, long way (but I'm not a sci-fi fan, which makes my vote even more subjective than usual )

It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

Given the forum it's on, this is easily the nerdiest poll in existence.
I'm more of a LotR style nerd, meself.

You know what, they are different enough in nature that I really don't care. i do have all the Rings but no Wars. You should have tossed Matrix in there though. |

I love both as I am a geek. :)
But LOTR because they are overall better made and the novels are a work of art.

I do agree that LotR feels more consistent then Star Wars, or Harry Potter for that matter. I watched some of the bonus features, and the level of detail with the props on LotR is amazing.

the Star Wars movie adaptions were clumsy novelizations of the films so that
goes without saying, though some of the non-film books are rather good
(such as Deathstar)

You haven't read it?
I think DUNE is easily the best Sci-Fi series of all time (with the movie in exception)
Star Wars is entertaining though | I fixed it. Between the two, based on the movies AND the print versions, I'd say that Lord of the Rings has an incredible edge, of course in the books. The movies are nearly equal in my opinion. I think the Dune movie, while definitely not perfect, is incredible in its own way. |
The movie was ok, but I don't think it really did the book Justice.
Have you seen the HBO Miniseries? Now those were great... | I haven't seen the miniseries yet. I plan to buy them soon though, as I've heard they're good in their way as well. From what I've heard, some of the characters were better in them than the movie and vice versa. I'm wondering what the new Dune movie has in store for us...I'm wary, but hopeful. |
Are you reffering to Paul Of Dune?
Picked it up about 6 months ago - It bridges Dune Messiah and Children Of Dune... Great book, albeit less than the amazing original.

LOTR.
I love the books (and the movies) and have read them once a year for the last 7 years or so. Started with The Hobbit though and took it from there.
I love Star Wars as well, but it's just not the same thing.
