You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Talking about the movies or series, my vote is for Capt. Jean Luc Picard.
Patrick Stewart is a serious actor that makes anything easy to believe, Shatner is a good enterteiner but not in the same level. I also remember his fantastic peformance in Excalibur as Guiniveer's father. Iván

First Contact rules !!! Picard so hates those b*****d Borgs. More than Kirk ever hated Khan. But the best single Trek movie moment will always be Kirk yelling KHAAAAN !!!

Voting currently 2:1 for TNG! Guess I never saw enough of JLP and his crew to appreciate them, but having grown up with James T, Mr Spock, Bones and Scotty I feel honour bound to give Star Trek my vote.

From what I've read, in 1960 Roddenberry started pitching a science fiction series for TV. The pilot was 1965 and the original series started in 1966.
In making my decision, just to be fair, I tried not to throw Kirk and Picard up against each other without their crews. So I thought about Kirk and Crew versus Picard and Crew. Then I considered that the captain is the supreme being on board ship. So, it really does break down to Kirk vs Picard.

Oh, no, once I read in an old MAD magazine that there was a fan that had his retinas burnt after following a 97-hour debate Kirk vs Picard on internet. I hope it doesn´t repeat here.

Excuse me excuse me. At the risk of showing my age, the original Star Trek ran in the late '60's. No denying it often had that '50's B movie air about it though. I was on board for the original Battlestar series at it's beginning, but it was turned into a kiddie thing. The new BG is pretty well done. |

I have to agree with npjnpj about some of the cheesy acting (and aliens that look like they're from a low-budget 1950s type B movie) but the original series was in the early sixties when TV special effects were still low level. We didn't know any better at the time and accepted it as it was. I recall reading that Battlestar Galactica didn't last too long because the special effects were too expensive for a television series. |

when TOS was good it was the best thing on TV, Next Gen was a first rate show but it was too polished, I love the character of the old series ..as for the films they're about even I guess, they always seemed to hit-and-miss, every other one a winner
anyway, Kirk Edited by Atavachron - August 21 2009 at 05:08 |

When I was young I used to watch the Kirk/Spck gang quite a lot and it was good at the time.
Lately though I saw a few episodes again and was horrified at the cheesy ham acting. I can live with the cheap effects of the time and a lot of stuff that goes together with those episodes being so old, but the acting is just plain awful. Just can't excuse that.
Picard and crew are quite good though.

Now there's a character I loved to hate. Will Wheaton is actually quite a liberal and is currently running a blog and has a family, which just seems so weird to me. http://www.wilwheaton.net/ Wesley Crusher, all grown up with a family, whaaa? |

Ah, but Dean, didn't you just LURVE the way we all watched him develop into a man and, latterly, a super human entity? |

if only they'd given Wesley Crusher a red shirt in Series 1, or got him to stand in front of Natasha Yar at least....

If I wore a red shirt I really would not have liked Kirk. Seemed like a lot less security personnel got killed off under Picard.

I've really got to collect more Star Trek, I only have the original series. I like watching it whenever it's on on the "Syfy" channel.
