*bump*
To those that are interested, apparently you can download the video for "Time Flies" for free from the iTunes store. I don't know how long it will last but it was there today.
Enjoy

I see the cover as a continuation or variation of the previous covers with heads and hands. This though is giving us the cold shoulder. Or is it "stay away from this album"?

I'm pretty sure there's no relation between the finnish guy and the cover. Like Henry said it's a common thing to have your hand in front of your head when not wanting to be shown on TV. If I remember correctly, in the booklet of the album are several pictures of other people holding their hands in front of their heads. Also, last week when I was at a Porcupine Tree gig Steven Wilson described the cover as "the paparazzi like picture".

Yes, you really are. The two pictures are completely different, and blocking the camera with your hand is extremely common. Any time someone does some sort of expose of something, the employees/members of whatever it is they're exposing always do that because they don't want to be filmed. I think the cover is invoking a bystander to a crime/accident who doesn't want to be on TV, which I suppose is less common but still makes sense.

I think it must be this picture that has stuck to my head:
Damn this picture to hell. It has etched into my mind. (Edit: It is a picture of a video that Auvinen made before the school shootings in Finland last year)
I wonder if the picture on PT's album is a statement refering to this picture, but stating with the open hand to 'no weapons', and non violence.. I know Wilson been quite interesing in touring Finland lately, so a reference to the shool shootings would't be too far fetched. Or am I stretching it?

Putting your hand in front of the camera because you don't want to be filmed is a very common thing, I doubt he was thinking of that at all.
What I don't understand, though, is why he made it so symmetrical and centered. It looks like a bizarre pose, not someone really doing that.

To answer my own questions...
It must have been one of those with Auvinen with a pistol in his hand, pointing at the camera that comes to mind. Damn this sh*t. It sticks to the head if you want it or not.

I get a strange feeling of Deja Vu looking on the cover picture of 'The Incident'? Where did I see that gesture with the hand in front of the camera?

Am I the only one that thinks Lightbulb Sun is their best work?
I'd say Lightbulb Sun and In Absentia are my favourite PT albums. I listened to In Absentia today for the first time in a while, and I was reminded how amazing it is.

Currently on about my 8th listen and I'm loving it. Wilson and his band are as good as ever and that's saying a lot. They seem totally unaffected by current trends and just make the best music they can. Call me a fanman if you like but it more than meets my high expectations. Their attention to the sound quality and ambience they produce is extraordinary in and of itself. Best album I've heard in over two years.

Is the new album as good as Deadwing or In Absentia? (which were perfect albums IMHO.) |
In Absentia is excellent. Deadwing is weak. The Incident is just as good as or tad weaker than Deadwing - I am still pondering. |
Hmmmm.... I am still unsure as to what to expect as I thought Deadwing their best album and In Absentia second yet you say Deadwing is weak. I was introduced tot he band through this album and was completely floored by the musicianship and songwriting. Its aggressive and still flows seamlessly into a concept album. I am still amazed at the complexity and brilliance of Deadwing.
I know its all opinion but still unconvinced as to whether Incident is worth a purchase. It has very aggreesive negative and positive fans here. There are very little in between opinions. Love it or hate it.

Well, I've still got to listen to it more, but I find it just about as disappointing as the previous album. Though that's not to say I don't enjoy it, I do. I just think it's more of the same. I'd put this one maybe slightly above the last album, which was my least favorite PTree album (I've not heard anything before Up the Downstair, however).
Funny, the parts some are calling "filler" I think are some of the best parts of the album......or would have been if they'd been developed a bit more into stand alone songs. I really don't hear this album as a single piece of music, more a concept album I think (like the Wall or Dark Side). Though since concept albums are meant to be heard as a whole, it may amount to the same thing. Still, nobody usually thinks of concept albums as a single song.
Anyway, not a bad album at all, probably 3 stars for me. I'll give it a few more weeks though and it may gain (or lose) a star.

^ there's that word "uninspired" again ... why/how were these tracks uninspired, was it a tempo thing or what? |
I suppose uninspired is taken a bit subjectively here, but midtempo usually helps the feeling that the artist didn't seem to put any extra effort into the tune.
However, I will say that the verses of "The Blind House", all of "Drawing the Line", the title track, "Your Unpleasant Family", "Time Flies", and a couple others after that do absolutely nothing to me, though I really haven't listened to the album enough, though the fact that I can't recall the tracks probably supports my case.

The Incident is PT's second worst album after On The Sunday of Life... It still gets at least 2 stars, though, and maybe three..
