Hurrah!! Big smile

So, to recapitulate, we had in order:

Tortoise
Harmonium
Leb i Sol
Etron Fou Leloublan
Ozric Tentacles
Picchio dal Pozzo
Agitation Free
KTU
Can
King Crimson
Mike Oldfield
Anglagard
Albert Marcoeur
After Dinner
Interférence Sardines

And together the first letters of each band were assembled to spell Pochakaite Malko, a lively Japanese band definitely worth many listens.
-Hitler was a vegetarian.
-Bring me coffee or tea.
-Why don't you eat carrots?
-Eat that question.

Actually, I typed in "Bread and Salt" into Google and it came up with a Wiki page about it being an Eastern Bloc greeting.  So I think... ah!

I then typed in "Bread and Salt Prog Rock" into Google et voila!  Leb i Sol.

If that is so then I'm curious how you figured out that it was them... In how many languages did you query Babelfish before you tried Macedonian? Tongue

And the Krautrock band we're looking for is not A.R. & the Machines or Ash Ra with or without Temple. It is a little more... motionless than that.
-Hitler was a vegetarian.
-Bring me coffee or tea.
-Why don't you eat carrots?
-Eat that question.

So it's either Ashra or A.R. & Machines.

I'll go for the latter.

As for the L... I have no idea.  The only one I could find was Latte e Miele and I'm fairly sure that translates as something completely different in Italian.

It's not even Ash Ra Tempel either! The rest of your synthesis is correct though. We still have a non-English language band beginning with L (and translating to Bread and salt) to find, plus a key pioneer of the Krautrock scene beginning with A.

James, if I gave 1 point for a correct answer and substracted 1 point for a wrong answer, you'd be in the red. And if I multiplied your score by 5 as a reward for solving the puzzle, well you'd be even further down in the red. LOL

So...

-2 are from my homeland, the province of Québec - Check
-1 appears in the "Top Artists" signature of someone who has posted on this page - Check (Harmonium are listed in Fil Karada's sig)
-1 is a key pioneer (early 70's) of the Krautrock scene - Check (if Ash Ra Tempel is correct)
-2 draw their name from a non-English language. One band name actually translates to "bread and salt". - half-done I think

So a non-English language band beginning with L whose name translated into Bread and Salt.

Hahaha, apologies.

Look de Bouk are not an offshoot as such but they were Suisse and related to Hellebore (as were Kulu Hatha Mamnua).

So just two to get?

Then I'll go for Ash Ra Tempel.

As for the L... I'm working on it.

Right on for Harmonium (#2) and Interférence Sardines (#15)! Star

James, I was scared you'd soon deflate. I didn't know how many more Etron Fou Leloublan offshoots you could throw at me like that... Wacko

As for Amon Duul, it's definitely in the right trail, but the band we're looking for is probably a little less iconic.

Interference Sardines?
Amon Duul or Amon Duul II?

Clap Nice work, James!

So, out of the remaining bands... H would be Harmonium, right? Clip #2, maybe? (This is 75% guesswork, I should point out). The others... no idea.

Henry cow! Err... I mean holy cow!

Pochakaite Malko it is! Shocked

Congratulations to the winner! ClapApproveClap

Of the remaining four mystery bands starting with H, A, I and L:

-2 are from my homeland, the province of Québec
-1 appears in the "Top Artists" signature of someone who has posted on this page
-1 is a key pioneer (early 70's) of the Krautrock scene
-2 draw their name from a non-English language. One band name actually translates to "bread and salt".

and...

-1 starts with an H
-1 starts with an A
-1 starts with an I
-1 starts with an L

which spells out "All Hail to Pochakaite Malko!!"

Wacko
-Hitler was a vegetarian.
-Bring me coffee or tea.
-Why don't you eat carrots?
-Eat that question.

Sorry about that. I wasn't entirely sure what you were asking me, to be honest. All the links in this thread will still be active and if you read it through the identities to every band will be listed... If you wanted me to post it all again in one simple post then I'm sorry, but my hard drive died recently and had to be replaced, so I lost the original documents I'd listed the answers in.

In short, just go over the thread again and you should be able to pick out all the bands you'd like to hear more of. Good luck!

Getting back to the current puzzle, I echo the call for hints! I'd love to be able to have a crack at the anagram but I doubt I'd get it without a few more letters.

Thanks mate, will do so! Wink

How on earth did I work that out? Shocked

That leaves bands beginning with:

H A I L & E

E is for Etron Fou Leloublan

I'm wondering if the last track maybe by Louk de Bouk or someone like that.
