Oh, except one more thing: they are FREAKIN AMAZING live. It's a shame that one of their guitarists left the band recently, but they've survived some pretty dramatic lineup changes in the past so I have no doubt they'll continue making incredible music and playing it live to incredulous (if tiny) audiences.

This is one of my favorite modern avant-rock bands. Zs, Karate Bump, Buck and Arms are all fantastic (and I've reviewed them all at Ground & Sky).
Mind-bending stuff and highly recommended. That's all I have to say. |

Dammit... I got this album a while ago last year. It's a really great album and I definitely recommend it. I also recommend their Live album that was released last year as well.

Should listen to it again soon.

But you're not going to eat unless you're hungry.
I agree with both replies. I'm just more cautious recommending these sort of things to a wide public after receiving some negative comments from some. I know that it's normal for it to happen, but they still pull me down. Also there's not a lot of people here that try out new things. Yeah, I'm kind of bummed out by these things... |

But it really is one of those things that you would never know that you like until you try it. I would actually recommend stuff like this to people that have never heard this kind of style before because it's a breath of fresh air.

You're right about your first part of the post. But going by the spirit of a certain saying we have in Hebrew, if even one person finds this intriguing enough to go on and listen and then finds he likes it, then it's all worth it
Actually, I think Zs might be more "easy to digest" than say Upsilon Acrux or Yowie... I find Arms to be a refreshing wind of avant rock...

I'm quite skeptical about recommending this band to a wider prog audience since it isn't something that many people will find enjoyable, but for those with an adventurous music taste and a knack for tight musicianship without any showmanship should check out Zs' Arms.

Thanks for using my review Assaf
But seriously folks, this would be a great time to just forget about Porcupine Tree's release, or Rush's or Dream Theater's. Give a different band a chance because you never know what you may find. Look around for some gems, you may find one as good as this. In my top 10 for 2007

ZS - Arms
To categorise these guys is about as difficult as the music they play. ZS’s music could be considered as a combination between Avant-Garde/Free Jazz and Math Rock, only with a clearly tidy and structured vibe to it. In addition, their music is also extremely dynamic but also repetetive and requires patience as the music can get frustratingly intense at times, but it’s all very energetic and fun to listen to. Their songs are loaded with odd meters and time-signatures and several “start-stop-start” sections are present and plays a significant role in their overall sound, something that could compare them to several bands labeled as Math-Rock. The melodies are often odd, dissonant and unpredictable with heavy minimalistic elements while also being tightly arranged. Stylistically they are looseley akin to Keith Tippett projects, such as Ovary Lodge and Centipede (minus the piano) and the sax playing at times has the stylistics of Elton Dean (from Soft Machine). The minimalistic tendencies are obviously reminiscent of Ennio Morricone and Philip Glass, but often with the more rock-orientated form of minimalism played by Third-era Soft Machine. The band currently consists of Charlie Looker (synthesizer/guitar), Ben Greenberg (guitar), Sam Hillmer (saxophone), and Ian Antonio (drums) although the group have gone through several line-up changes since their formation in 2000. This band is absolutely recommended if you like wacky and both technical and challenging music. Especially for fans of bands like Orthrelm, Ruins and Hella. They are not easy listening by any means but they are absolutely worth checking out if you are into stuff like this, although it may take some time to digest their releases properly. ===Written by Bj-1=== Listen to them here:
