This thread has all kinds of bad vibes in it.

Of the emo music I've heard (including a lot of emo bands that pass through a local venue in town), I haven't really enjoyed any of it. I don't have much knowledge regarding the genre, but what I do know isn't for me. Rap, on the other hand, has plenty to love. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique (if I feel like being really freaked out), and even Kanye are among a lot of great sounds going on in rap today.

If you only listen to the mainstream, you're going to miss out on a lot of stuff. And if you completely ignore the mainstream out of elitism, then you'll also miss out on a whole lot of stuff.

And only god(if such a being exists) knows why I left Dälek out of that post.... Negro Necro Nekros is amazing!

Why not? Emo is a stupid term that could be used to describe anything.

Vocalists in old (real) Emo bands very seldom had high-pitched voices, though.

Prog isn't the be all and end all though, quite suprised that no prog has experimented with hip hop at all really.

^^ not to say of course that C&C and TMV are worse than emo, but still; you see what happens to anything emo touches.

This poll proves that just about no one knows what real emo is. The crap you hear on the radio and MTV isn't real emo at all. First wave emo was known as "emotional hardcore" and existed in the mid 80's to early 90's. It was just that, emotional hardcore punk. Second wave emo is my favorite and was when the bands mellowed out and got artsier. Second wave emo was closer to hard rock and sometimes metal than punk and was very very beautiful. But then you get these modern bands who basically have nothing to do with real emo and they're horrible.

Also, I'd pick any form of real music over rap any day. Evil%20Smile

I'm aware about the existence of the early emo bands, but I haven't heard them yet.

It's obvious that the thread starter was referring to the newest wave of emo rock that's all the rave on MTV so I just went along with it. Geek

Yes.

The old Emo of course. There isn't any proper emotion in the new stuff.

Yes, rap fans have given me the most trouble out of any musical group. Always trying to "convert" me, it seems...

Anyway, I love emo because of *drumroll* the emotion. It's so palpable and when I hear the perfect combination of emotion in both music and lyrics, it's amazing.
