The Fredster for me........... but that might be an age thing!?!?!?!?!?

Freddie was incerdible, and irreplacable.  I don't really 'know' Jim well enough, or I only 'know' him retrospectively, maybe if I 'knew' him when he was recording and laughing and breathing I would feel more balanced.

Does that make sense?

Anyway, neither one "is," as they both aren't. Stern%20Smile

Winning in a landslide...Freddie Mercury, undoubtedly one of the greatest vocalists in rock history.  I'm not a super Queen fan but his talent is undeniable.

Freddie, obviously - while the vocal quality may be a matter of taste, Freddie could also play the piano (pretty well - legend has it that he had a piano at the head of his bed, and taught himself how to play "upside down" so that if he had an idea late at night, he could just play it then and there) - and composed some of Queen's greatest music as a small aside.

Jim couldn't play or write a note - although he had an ear for a good melody, so it's a matter of fact that Freddie is the better musician, if you take "better" to mean more accomplished, more versatile, more able and more rounded. Not to mention less drunk in the studio.

Jim wasn't a musician - he was a poet who could sing with a great vocal tone in a limited register and provide a feeling of great drama and power.

Freddie had the drama, the power, a range of vocal tones, the gift of a great and fluent rock lyricist, and the enviable ability to write knockout melodies that expressed the core of his lyrics - and he could also sing other people's lyrics (Brian's and Roger's) and make them sound like he'd written them.

Really, even if we compare them simply as vocalists, Freddie wins - to be honest, I prefer Jim's vocal tone and lyrical content (on the early Doors albums, at least...) - although that has little to do with his abilities as a musician!
The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Freddie Mercury for me.
As for the bands I prefer early Queen over The Doors, but I like The Doors, too.

Fred...I love how all the teens go around and just say Morrison when somebody mentions 'The Doors'. None of them can even recognize a track from them. Jim Morrison is becoming more of an icon like 'Dark Side of the Moon'.
