I saw it when it originally aired as a special on NBC. It's a great parody, and extremely funny. I love the interviews with actual Rock Stars. Like Mick Jagger talking about a song written by the Rutles for the Rolling Stones. "They brought it back, and it was 'orrible. So we never bothered to record it."

I am I alone in first seeing this mockumentary first back on BBC 2 in the 70's - predating Spinal Tap - indeed the idea for the Rutles was born out of Idle's post Python TV series Rutland Weekend Television - hence the spoof band name?

Thank you, I've been wanting to see this for a while. I didn't know they did it in a Spinal Tap manner. All of the parts with Idle as the documentarian were hilarious.

There's a new release of the Rutles CD just out. Very clever parodies of the Beatles' songs by Neil Innes.

I own the DVD.
My favourite part is "What's your ambition?" "Oh, I'd like to be a hairdresser, or two. I'd like to be two hairdressers." Edited by Shakespeare - August 14 2007 at 15:40 |

The Ruttles are good, George Harrison was "in" on the joke and even made a cameo appearance in the film.
