Topic: when someone asks you who your favourite band is: Posted: September 25 2007 at 11:34 |
I answer truthfully, but mention more than one. _"Before Phil Collins is the singer, Genesis" _"Led Zeppelin + Pink Floyd" (easy one) _"Opeth" (many haven't heard of them, I just tell them it's complex metal music) _"The Flower Kings" (gets me the most looks)

Am I the only one that finds liking obscure bands sexy?

There's not much point in answering this question - if whoever's asking it hasn't heard of KC or Gentle Giant or the Olivia Tremor Control or anyone else I might name then from their point of view I may as well be making up names.
So I'd probably answer something like "Well, I really like..." Flaming Lips/Muse/Radiohead/The Arcade Fire/some other relatively well-known band.

EDIT: Also, be careful about naming those bands around here, you may get some nasty retorts.

You should read my post more thoroughly. Or maybe I'm not making sense or something. In any case, I would answer truthfully.
And I can't help it if other people are close-minded and have problems. |
Woops, I forgot to add a little emoticon at the end of that sentence.

I usually say Frank Zappa which is true enough and most people know who he is....although I almost get the response "Oh, cool...I've never listened to any of his music."

I say I dont have a favorite band because I dont, although I dont 'waffle' over the fact. I like all kinds of music although prog is my favorite style. But Im not embarrased in my taste of music if thats what you are getting at. I can talk about any genre of music as long as the music is heartfelt and honest I can respect it.
If I Had to come up with something, I would say that Im into older early 70's bands like Genesis and Yes, but if that persons a classical or punk or country enthusiast I can have an adult conversation about it and I dont put myself on a pedistal because Im into 'arty' music and I DO NOT think that prog music lovers are more intelligent or above any other kind of serious music lover. |
I usually agree, except for those that love "My boobs are ok!"

I'm probably most obsessed with Megadeth so that would be the likeliest answer but depending on the person asking, there's three possible answers. (and usually I'll name all of them anyway) |

I just kind of nod and smile slowly. They'll usually ask if you know who they are.

Yeah, once, but I couldn't hold the laughter in, and they caught on, and then rushed away in a blushing frenzy.
