I love Rush... they were my favourite band growing up.  I also enjoy DT, have all their albums, and they get a regular listen.

And yet, according to many in this forum, that should somehow make me dislike ELP...why?  Are they mutually exclusive?  I've got ELP on at the mo as it happens...quite by chance.

What's with all the ELP vs DT and Rush vs ELP crap?  How old are we?

This thread was from back in February/Early March when you were either for or against ELP. It doesn't apply to today. This is a bit of nostalgia.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Now, lemme just find those Rush vs. ELP and that ELP Fan Guidlines thread. That'll start a riot!

When I started this thread there was a lot of ELP 'bashing' on THIS forum. It wasn't aimed at non prog lovers who presumably wouldn't be here in the first place but actually at prog fans posting here who seemingly hate ELP.Just wanted to make that clear.Let the flaming resume!

I still love ELP. Maybe not in the same way as my youth... 25+ years ago, but some pieces transcend time. I've learned to appreciate the chords, the notes, solos of Greg Lake, the drumming skill of Carl Palmer. Keith Emerson, however, was a bit heavy handed and his parts have not aged as well. Too much cheese, but he did have some timeless moments. Greg Lake's voice and guitar work weighs heavily on my skills. Sure, he's no Fripp/Holdsworth/McLaughlin on guitar, but he was better than the guy on the corner and that is important.

Long live ELP. Oh yeah, and Gordon Biersch or Guinness.... Beer is GOOOD!

Eddy... stop the drugs... and the mood and screeching would probably stop!
