I haven't been able to tolerate U2 since The Joshua Tree. Bono's ego got the best of me and ruined their music.

I think The Joshua Tree is a great album... I saw U2 live when they were touring to promote it, and they smoked! However, I do agree that now they are only a shadow of their former self - although there are lots of much worse bands on the market.

I find "Achtung Baby" to be a masterpiece of mainstream music... And their next years were pretty "experimental" for a pop-rock band, may I add.

I saw Brad Gandalf and the boys supporting Peter Gabriel at Knebworth - they put on a decent show IMO. At one point Sir Bob got a camera and took a picture of the audience so he could show his dad all the hippies watching his band,

I remember that one day (it was probably in 1990 or thereabouts) I was at work and we had a U2 fan there telling us how good they were. I asked the question, "Which album did U2 first sell out on?"
Do you know, everybody in that place (it was a Pizza Hut in Tennessee) got the answer right?
If you don't know, the answer is obviously The Joshua Tree. |
Interesting .
Personally I still like them on Joshua Tree, and on Rattle And Hum and Achtung Baby,
although it took some time to appreciate JT and RAH.
I thought they were on a high point at Under A Blood Red Sky.

Most '80's American metal bands in the Cinderella / Poison style.
Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park...
I can't stand present day U2, however good they were in the eighties and early nineties. I dislike REM and Dire Straits, except for a few songs which stand out from the rest. It's a matter of taste, I guess...

Steve, sorry if my post sounded as if it was directed to you.... I can assure you it wasn't, since there is much worse around here. I've been guilty of the good old bashing habit in the past as well! It was just a general remark, but I seem to be like a bull in a china shop lately.

As David's above post shows quite clearly, we are ready to dismiss as bad something we don't like, when instead we are dealing with somebody who are very good at what they do. We may not like Frank Sinatra's music, but I think no one can deny he had an amazing voice.

no need to take things so seriously folks, this thread is already 10 pages long, i was only entering into the fun spirit of it, i'm not a teenage noob .....

i can't abide hearing (or even seeing) Kiss, Prince or Meatloaf, now they are what i would call atrocious, amateurish, cheesy, and only in it for the money!

Mine I think is Aerosmith. I don't think they're completely atrocious, actually a couple of songs border on decent... |
I was so totally into Aerosmith in the mid-1970s; had their first four albums. My bubble was burst with them though when I found out that their guitarist (what is his name again?) did not do the lead solo on 'Train Kept A-rollin.' By 1977, I was much more totally into 70s prog bands and sold my Aerosmith vinyls at a garage sale.
My least favorite band is Metallica. They are commercial, glam, wanna-be-d-kind (you would say "d bomb" today) heavy metal band. Every song implicitly says "we are in this just for the money" and I can't stand that in a band...
|
I am wondering if you hate Metallica in genral or just newer Metallica. Their new album is suppose to be in the puppets vein - Dream Theater are salivating to hear that one.
Anyway I like Billy Joel! I do not know what the hates about. I think he has classy tunes about real stuff with good lyrics and nice piano. Whats wrong with that? His solo piano stuff is not bad either, but I think it is only compositional and not played.
I do not like Nickleback. I cannot tell the difference between their songs and since the template is generic anyways, that does not bode well for them.
