If Pink Floyd is the Kings of England in the 70's and Frank Zappa the Kings of America, Tangerine Dream would have to be the Kings of Germany.

This is not a complete poll at all. Sooooo many great German artists
are missing. Out of this list though, I'd have to go with Neu!.

What about Faust, Popol Vuh and Ash Ra Tempel? From the options given, Can first with Neu! a pretty close second. And I'll join the chorus demanding Kraan - their 1975 live album is incendiary! |

Of course not naming Embryo is a big oversight. And how about Annexus Quam? And no-one seems to know Between! (They are not even in the archive!). All in all there are a lot missing. (Ash Ra Tempel, Dzyan, Birth Control, Wallenstein, Brainstorm, Popol Vuh, Xhol Caravan, to name a few more).

The Baldies know Kraan, of course. I often pointed out Helmut Hattler of Kraan should appear in any bass poll. |

Good gawd - what kind of choices are these? I had to create an account just so I can respond. Where is Cluster? Tangerine Dream? even Kraftwerk? But, by far and away, Far And Away, FAR AND AWAY, WHERE IS FAUST!?!?! # 1: Faust (distant) #2: Neu! #3: Can #4: etc. |

Yes where is Kraan. Got introduced to their first 5 albums in the last 18 months ( coincides with following EMI of Germany's release of remastered versions of those records on CD). I was started off by the experts in Krautrock, the Freeman brothers at Ultima Thule in Leicester (http://www.ultimathulerecords.com/) on Kraan's Live album. This is an outstanding live recording, and in particular Helmutt Hattler's electric bass playing is magic - when the electric sax isn't taking lead, Hattler takes over and lets the guitarist play rhythm. Really a recording of an early jam jazz band? |

Enterely right Zappa123...it's true that numerous bands miss on the list...but well I think I'm gonna vote for Novalis or Amon Duul (despite the fact that I really enjoy listening the music of most part of the bands mentionned above) Edited by philippe |
