Topic: Do you let people push you around? Posted: December 20 2006 at 07:13 |
I was pushed around in my teens. I always wanted a quiet life, and I lacked confidence. I think once I had 'grown up' I found that confidence that literally everyone else seemed to have from the age of 13. So, no. I dont really get pushed around these days, but sometimes I dont know when to shut up. I speak my mind and upset people with meaning to.
I've never really been involved in a fight. I'm only a shortarse, but apparently I look like a dangerous criminal. That probably accounts for why most women run a mile from me too.

But I really get mad if someone beats up my friend

No. I'm a very peaceful person and I'm always cool with everyone so there's no hate going on.

No -- but it's much easier to resist getting pushed around when you're a grown man. Life gets much less confrontational after high school.
Physical threats RARELY happen in adulthood (plus I'm 6' 3", and over 200 lbs), but when people are deliberately rude to me, or try to take advantage, I speak up in no uncertain terms.
BTW, I like the way you empathize with your teacher, Stoney. ![Clap](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gif) Trying to teach unmotivated, ill-mannered young louts is a very tough job!

I’ve never gotten into a fight for two reasons. I hate to sound arrogant but I’m very respected in school and around my local community. Second reason being I’m already a 200lb muscled-up guy.

usually, but when I'm pushed hard enough I push back.
A couple months ago a guy who was about 150 pounds heavier and a good 5 inches taller pissed me off, and I got right in his face and told him to f*ck off.

Hmm, I'm such a peaceful guy that I very rarely get into these sort of situations where defending yourself (verbally or otherwise) becomes a necessity. I get along with most people quite easily.
Some accidents have happened in the past, mostly due to someone (not me) being drunk, and behaving irrationally for that reason. I've talked myself out of these situations (without resorting to any kind of violence).
In general, I do not push people around, and they treat me with that same respect.

I have never let people push me around.I am almost 6'4",and in my prime I was a muscular 230 lbs.I have always been quick to fight,no matter what the size or the numbers of opponents are,and had a reputation for that from an early age,so people didn't mess with me much. Not to say I didn't get my ass whipped on occasion, because I did.I took on five guys in my high school parking lot and fought like a wild man but they beat the absolute piss out of me,simple as that.I pee'd blood for 2 weeks, was one big cut and bruise from head to toe, could barely get out of bed for awhile, had broken ribs and a broken nose.I spent the next year getting each of the five guys that beat me up at a time when they were totally alone and pounded the hell out of them. That was when I was 17 and no one ever tried anything with me from then on,and the only fighting I did after that was when I was in the service.

My brother has an interesting way of intimidating people. He slouches a lot and when some one bugs him he stands up straight and he is big so it is scary.

Eh, people don't bother me. I don't like a potential "easy victim", I guess.

I don't usually get pushed around. I am 5'11" and 185 pounds, but I look big and have a bigger older brother, and people usually don't do anything to me. But if they did I would have no trouble telling them to f**k off.

Generally a problem isn't created. However, I can usually stand up for myself if the situation calls for it.
I used to be more reserved, but I guess apathy has its postive side effects as well.

Nah, I'm a pretty small guy though (5'8" 165 lbs) but I tend to be very calming and usually people just kind of subdue... regardless, usually I am not pushed around

Having taught martial arts for over twelve years, this is an area of interest to me, both psychologically and physically, and it is always a challenge (even with training) to know the best reaction. My policy is this: I am as patient and courteous as I can be in the face of some ignoramous who thinks they know what they're talking about, and I give the individual at least two chances to stop. By the third or fourth time, I tend to let them know the situation; I will not be f***ed with, especially for a bad reason. But each encounter is different, so play it by ear and remember that if you later need the support of others, to try to be the 'good guy', the 'one in the right', and that way any anger on your part will be understood. Physical action should always be your *last* line of defense, not your first. Good luck. |
Or you could skip all of those steps and just show them your black belt..
