VB, Reed Lover:

Nice try!  However, you actually sunk yourself.  If you had created a thread that only included the posts that really did relate to music, maybe - maybe - I would have left it.  But by posting all of the posts - the majority of which have nothing to do with music - you are "hoist by your own petard," and this thread, as tuxon notes, belongs in "discussions not related to music."

Sorry. Better luck next time...

Peace.

1. It took nine Days for VC to post a picture

2. He writes more than one sentence at a time and makes clear concise statements.

Well it was back in the good old days, when I wasn´t force fed  Prozac. Prozac has killed my passion.

Bilden “http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/cfr0034l.jpg” kan inte visas, då den innehåller fel.

I love ya Vibe, but we really don´t need all this crap once again.

Ok Reed Lover What are you trying to pull?  This cannot be the first part of the REAL Mariah thread because

1. It took nine Days for VC to post a picture

2. He writes more than one sentence at a time and makes clear concise statements.

3. Peter had nothing to say at all ie. (HINT: Good way to avoid controversy....) Peter would never even think that.

Please desist in your plagiaristic behavior immediately!!!!

And I want to thank the rest of you for all the laffs  Although we all know that humor does not belong in a serious place like this.Thank you Vibebaby for making us all aware of this fact.

Shakira , Celine, Brittney, Mariah, Jewel, Avril Levigne, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Janet, Teri Clark ( Yes, I hate country as well), Jenifer should all be subjected to two months of white noise with a damp canvas sack over their head with no food or water and then given Clockwork Orange treatment and forced to listen to Thick As A Brick over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until they are artistically re-habilitated. After this they have to successfully complete British SAS special forces training wearing a discman which plays nothing but classic Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP and Gentle Giant tracks. After this phase the hard part would begin. But I haven't decided what this would be yet. Any suggestions?

Philippe is using the WORD "sucker" too easily in this FORUM

But Stormcrow, you must understand that I dont think Philippe was really serious because there is a SMILE [] beside the word SUCKER .. so I suppose he was joking ...

But, please Philippe try to not to use bad word ... writings can easily be MIS-UNDESTOOD .. and try to justify your self here !

Thanks

OK, Max.

I'll let it go this time.  And for the sake of your arguement I'll assume that Philippe wasn't aware of the two very bad connotations of the word he used in that way.

However that is an assumption I won't be willing to make the next time he pulls something like that.

I just wondered why someone has put a topic like that on this forum...and then we have people who said, yes Mariah Carey has a great voice...why don't she sung in a prog band??? I consider that supermarket music has nothing to do with real music made by real musicians...morevover the huge Mariah Carey is far to be a "diva". So sorry Stormcrow...but you reply just really irritated me to a point...

Well it wasn't me who started the topic.

Carey does have a great voice, though she doesn't use it.

She dosen't sing in a prog band because she wants great fame and fortune and she probably hates prog anyway.

It's just pop music, if it irritates you then you are paying too much attention.

The post shouldn't have, if you had just a minimum of perspective on the subject.

If the French gentleman don´t understand why some clown puts this topic in this  holy forum, he really just should listen to the French band TAAL and tell us why Mariah Carey should get alot of money for the crap she does and a band like TAAL hardly get any money at all.

Or as the late Frank Zappa often said " There Is No Hell...There´s Only France "

I think Mariah Carey is popular because the majority of people have little or no taste in music, and simply want to listen to whatever is popular. Hello, age of conformity!

I think it should be mandatory for students to study prog in school. instead of learning classical music, they should listen to the greats, like floyd, and try to tab rush tunes. That would get most of them away from the unmusical rhythms that are popular. It would also create an interest in music in the general population, and spawn more talented musicians.

... peace seems to be back in this THREAD

I just want to close the MARIAH CAREY subject (while I think she already get to much attention ) and say that please guys be open minded !

The point here was to compare CAREY voice to other prog vocalist and elocate the fact that she was a bit talented ... so don't be prog hole and try to react to the current subject instead of always react based on your deepest prog love ...

Peace everyone !

ROTFLMAO!!!!

Just imagine, if she actually got talked into doing an album of prog covers (I'm sure a cetain amount of drugs in her cocktail might do the trick  ). Imagine her doing for example:

1) Dancing With The Moonlit Knight

2) Any Magma tune (that could be hilarious)

3) A duet with an air raid siren

4) Don't Kill The Whale

5) Epitaph

6) 4 Holes In The Ground

7) Maybe even a collabortaion with RUINS

and much more hilarity could ensue.

Maybe it's just the thing that'll stop her deluded caterwauling once and for all. I look at it like this, Michael Bolton killed his career by getting in over his head doing an album of opera arias, this could be just the thing to get Mariah of her high-horse once and for all.

Oh man, now you're getting me going here! Great title!

OK, now here we go, what should we call it? So far:

"Selling Silicon By The Pound"

or maybe to take Velvetcown's idea a little closer to her homebase:

" The Bimbo Writhes Down in Schenacteday"

and

" Megalomaniac Commanded Lobotomy"

" Tales From Topographic Hair Stylist Appointments"

As I "don't know, and don't care," I won't respond to this one.

(HINT: Good way to avoid controversy....)

Whoops! I Guess I just did respond, in a way!LOL

Great ones Lads

But Glass-Prison said it all :" I think Mariah Carey is popular because the majority of people have little or no taste in music, and simply want to listen to whatever is popular. Hello, age of conformity! "

Art is making something out of nothing and selling it.

Ok.. RAP anyone ?

Your persistence is inspirational.

I think we should let Mariah rest and dub Britney Spears as the new Queen of Prog.

I don't think it would be wise to fill THAT up with silicons as well!

The way she sings, I truly believe she should cover "Hocus Pocus".

...although I can't say I'd buy it

Personally, Id rather listen to an air raid siren on its last legs than the, ahem, "vocal stylings" of one Pariah Scarey.

That girl just cannot sing, and has such a huge ego to boot! UGH!

I don't even find her remotely attractive at all (I think that's what some call a Skank Queen).

Don't cause me to get violent. What a waste of a carbon unit. And what gets me is:

SHE COULDN'T EVEN SING IF SHE HAD A LOADED GUN HELD TO HER HEAD.

How does having a loaded gun held to the head help anyone sing??

What I meant was she couldn`t sing if her life depended on it. I hate Celine Dion even writing these few words is making me angry.

Actually, Mariah Carey has a wonderful voice.

It's how she chooses to use it that is so wrong.

   <SMILIE>

Actually, strictly within the confines of the pop genre, her first album wasn't all that bad.

But then were she to sing songs that we here liked, in a manner that we would approve of, she would have neither the fame nor fortune that she has and seems to crave.

How to put it?  Ability with no talent?  Talent with no ability?

Would she ever come around if she started hanging out with Steve Howe and/or Keith Emerson, rather than the hip-hop gangstas that she does?  Sadly, we'll never know.

No, I don't.  I simply said it wasn't the worst thing ever recorded.  And it isn't.  If you can't admit that, you have a problem.  Not me.

Well, it's obvious that mariah carey is not one of the best musicians around, but she still has a nice voice. the worst musician nod would probably have to go to some talentless rapper. As for mariah, if she sang something other than those cheezy pop melodies, I might have some more respect for her, but she doesn't, and I don't.

Yes, that was my entire original point.  For which I was labeled a "sucker" by Philippe.

I would still like to hear why.

Well, since I am not a computer whizz I have been forced to throw a curve ball at the admin group in order to get our beloved songtress back to the top. The Clown`s efforts were not in vain. We will defend our Prog Princess whatever the cost may be. There will be scapegoats. Sacrifices, martyrs and madmen. I`d like to see the admin. group try and remove this one  justifiably without explanation.

Long live Progressive Rock Music. (And long live The Clown).
