Topic: King Crimson vs Yes Posted: November 28 2006 at 08:37 |
No contest for me as I can't get into Yes and have none of their CD's.Got most of King Crimson's though.
Bill Bruford was right to switch bands!

Yes easily in the early years
1968-Yes is a decent debut (YES)
1969-Time and a word is good and ITCOTCK is decent but is one of the most overrated prog albums ever (YES)
1970-The yes album and Poseidon(underrated) are both great (DRAW)
1971-Fragile is a bit better than Lizard because Haskell has a crap voice (YES)
1972-CTTE is miles better than Islands (YES)
1973-Tales is too long but it's still a better listen than Larks which is pretty good (YES)
1974-Relayer and Red are both good, but overrated. Starless is mediocre (DRAW)
1977-GFTO is good but overrated (YES)
1978-Tormato is very good and underrated (YES)

Love both bands... But Crimson wins IMHO - they were more adventurous and they never released such crap as "Open Your Eyes" and "Union".

King CRIMSON are probably the most inconsistent prog band and when they are off it, they were terrible!
YES WINS

Probably my two favourite bands! KC perhaps the more adventurous, the more consistent as well, but Yes at their very best - like Close to the Edge and Relayer - shade it for me.

King Crimson, but I don't really like either of them. I think they deserve credit for influence, but if you're looking for musical quality, I prefer Pink Floyd, Genesis, and Jethro Tull (among others) more.

King Crimson, Yes have never done anything for me.
BTW, how the hell do you compare these two bands?

Only Judging criteria is "Which band's you find more appealing to your ears" or something like that. Not like i"s Yes more complex" or things like that.
Why did i vote for King Crimson? I find their music much more eerie, comfortable for the years and their compositions are just more interresting. Yes gets a bit "Soulless" sometimes, but don't get me wrong, i love Yes.

Crimson is brilliant. And unlike Yes, they know how to make a good comeback. Three times.

No contest here. Yes are in my top five groups (at their best) whilst I have never been a lover of Crimson. Too dissonant and pointlessly unmelodic at times.

None of them is "better" than the other. What are the judging criteria?
From these two, I prefer King Crimson.
