Topic: My growing King Crimson collection Posted: November 29 2006 at 20:45 |
Lizard and Starless. I've only listen to Islands a few times; but so far I find it a bit of a step down from Lizard. Lizard had so many great ideas in it and matured the sound of symphonic prog, for 1970 its a masterpiece considering what else was out there.

Lizard of course. It's almost as good as the debut. Mellotron and Saxophone rock on this one.

Starless, then Lizard
If don't have them already, get Red and Discipline

Yep! It sums up their early 80's career wonderfully, so after this you know quite well if the 80's studio albums will please you or not! (they please me)

I love Earthbound but it's definitely King Crimson's Marmite album (you either love it or hate it) so i voted for Starless and Bible Black.

Buy Lizard, then Starless. Or buy both at the same time ;)

Lizard for me.
The title track doesn't get the kudos it deserves.
Excellent stuff.

"Lizard" is special on so many levels. Crimson never did aything like it again, the lineup never toured, and the only song which ever really made it into future setlists was "Cirkus", which made it into concerts by the 1972 "Islands" lineup, and not much else.
Worth it for the uniqueness among their discography. Try "Starless" next to complete the 73-4 trio.

Definitely Lizard! It takes a little time to get used to Gorden Haskells vocals, but once you do you'll love Lizard. It's worth the price for the title track, King Crimson's only epic.

Island has grown a lot on me lately. Probably my favourite KC album at the moment. A great, underrated album.

OH! You need to hear Night Watch and Trio...two of the (sniff) most beautiful prog rockers every recorded. And Great Deciever ain't too shabby neither...Fracture's nice too.

Starless is what I called an easy album no 20 minutes songs... great rock... great voice... it just rock! you can explore something that KC gives to prog the true and hard ROCK!... but Lizard is second barely because of Lizard... 20 minutes of perfection... different classical instruments in too...
