I'm reading the book and I'll tell you it's pretty edgey. I can see why mny Christians hate it, with all the links to pagan imagrey and such.

“I was a young man with unformed ideas.  I threw out queries, suggestions, wondering all the time over everything; and to my astonishment the ideas took like wildfire.  People made a religion out of them!”  Charles Darwin

Yesterday I started to read this book because I have to travel at least one hour to my work and I had heard lots of positive stories. Well, after 50 pages I can say that it reads like a good historical detective and it contains some interesting views on the role of the church in the past like underpressing women and the enormous power of the Vatican.
By the way I am not an atheist but I don't believe in a god or gods, I have the idea that, like in nature, it's a tough world were we have to take our own responsibility. If somebody wants to pray, to me it's OK but it my opinion it won't help the huge poverty and injustice in Latin-America, Africa, Asia and an increasing amount of countries...
Today I will turn another page of this captivating book, I hope it will remain so.

To be honest, science is often just as implausible as religion. The majority of atheists do not actually understand the science behind the Big Bang theory, they just accept it because it is told to them by scientists, who supposedly "know what they're talking about". This, combined with the average atheist's willingness to dismiss any expression of religious thought without giving it serious consideration means that atheism and religion are the same, or at least very similar - both are essentially founded in ignorance and blind faith in the wisdom of their "spokesmen", "spokesmen" being either priests or scientists. I'm sure there are many people on these forums who understand all the science behind the Big Bang, just as there will be theists who understand all the arguments for the existence of God. However, nonetheless, most people believe in whatever it is they always believed in, and take just about everything about that belief on faith.

Actually, Kuhn, Popper, Hume, Kant, Mach and other philosophers who took away the ground of truth for science were not quite well known for their religiousness Tongue

I'm loving how the Church is squirming on this one.

Yet they completely fail to see the comparison to when they basically told Jews to "lighten up" about Passion of Christ.
