name that tune?
When I talk to the trees
O'great trees who have learned to speak slowly
I know that they believe that they have an answer
Then I walk in the city where I cannot hear it
When I talk to the city
I have already learned three answers
before I call the question
And slowly, I wish myself among trees
but can not hear myself wishing
When I talk to the people
who are the trees that grow in the city
they reply with a fond kindness, slowly
but there is no answer
for experience to be made by mistake
Upon this key, time will slide,
Beyond the lock, you lose your mind.
And as our door becomes open,
A rush of sound is found inside
Creating Dreams that pass you by.
You may live through your life a long long time..
But you will never know from where it came,
Yet all you've seen is what you've wanted to,
You`re walking forward as you look behind,
Still watching those old memories fade and die...
This door is heavy, and is deeply stained,
With wasted tears, that try to fight in vain,
You may be sitting, feeling quite secure,
But listen carefully - and this key is yours -
For we can lead you far beyond that door...
there are dangers hidden, trust in that language
and it is precisely this conception that which must
not be changed
the epitome of our language is patterns containment
of thought and sound
<shouting nonsense words>
I die to fight!!
I die to fight!!
I die to fight!!
<shouting nonsense words>
Upon this key, time will slide,
Beyond each lock, you lose your mind.
And as our door becomes open,
A rush of sound is found inside -
Creating Dreams that pass you by..
Bent cold sidewalk, open the gate,
I may be late but I can no longer wait.
Stealing the crown that stood me up,
I'm laying the table with dusty plates.
Bent cold sidewalk, open the gate,
I may be late but I can no longer wait.
Playing the god to fix your gaze,
I'm holding you firm on another day.
Bent cold sidewalk, open the gate,
I may be late but I can no longer wait.
<shouting nonsense words>

I am pretty sure that DB's style is more "cut and paste" than cut-and -thrust"

No problem fellas I consider progressive rock to exist for 3 main reasons
1. for those who apprieciate science fiction, such as Lord of the Rings, Dune and comic books. Basically esoteric avenues for child fantasy and the pubescent mind. The "I am Not Experienced" crowd.
2. experimental music avenues for complex musicianship and overworking of speed verses content music, and intellectual self indulgence.(most jazz fusion, Gentle Giant could even fall into this category). Not for the mainstream but musicians who are over indulged in their art.
3. for a spiritual avenue to develop relations between darkness and mans conscience thru occult, hallucenagenic states, narcotic and sexual experiences. Performed by advanced musicians that carry an intellectual edge.
I am of the 3rd persuation and am not a true prog head, as I dont consider it but one of the best avenues in music for story telling or altered states. My musical foundation was laid in the 70s and saw most of you guys favorites many times as I was a roadie working with VariLite during the 70s and early 80s. I have met 100s of your favorite musicians and burned the house down. This is just my viewpoint and I understand all will not agree.
I will never be a backer of Rush or U2 because I consider them 2nd tier groups. I recognize the impact they have had on some I just think it is the difference in sci-fi verses the state of mans spiritual or sexual condition and the stories of that interaction in music . 2 types of popular bands - those who got it and those who wish thy did!
Those who see my perspective should engage in this conversion. Those who dont , NO HARM INTENDED!!! |
NO HARM INTENDED??????
You waltz on here on talk utter nonesense to us as if you are teaching us something.
Those who see your perspective would have to have their heads up the same orifice as you---and being a proctologist I know that is dangerous, unhealthy and biologically impractical.

You talk about the seventies but your observations suggest you are just out of elementary school. What is that (^) garbage all about.
Why even mention U2 on a Prog Rock forum? Apart from the fact that they are probably the biggest band in the world, like them or loathe them, they quite obviously belong to the "1st Tier"
As for this:

Gdub and Peter just pretend to be inexperienced, loveless, loners. They are not really like that and you musn't judge all of us in the same vein.
For myself I did have sex once, but lets face it it is overrated and messy.

How many trios go into 100's-33, 66,100?
There weren't hundreds of bands of the Prog Persuasion touring in the late 70's and 80's!

There's safety in numbers
When you learn to divide
How can we be in
If there is no outside
All shades of opinion
Feed an open mind
But your values are twisted
Let us help you unwind
You may look like we do
Talk like we do
-But you know how it is
You're not one of us
Not one of us
No you're not one of us

RUSH breakdown
Alex Lifeson could of had a good career with a top
tier prog band, as well as Neil Pert, a wonderful
drummer.
Geddy Lee should have stuck to playing the bass
and left his fairytales in the fire.
With a good psychedelic songwriter and a
keyboardist or maybe a sax/flute player they could
have been something.
