And I guarantee the majority of these flaming posts will come from n00bs with less than 20 posts... otherwise known as trolls. |

You've obviously condemned it without hearing a note. So it begins... ![]() I'm predicting about a month or so of ignorant posts like this. I have asked people repeatedly to please listen carefully before reviewing or saying anything about the album, instead of condemning it out of hand or praising it on principle. STOP THIS MADNESS!!! ![]() |

AON,
You are quite enitled to your opinion, but there certain aspects of you initial post which I would comment on:
Where you are correct is in the implication that albums should not be reviewed based on leaks (which may or may not be genuine) or on simply being a fan of the band. The reaction to your post to date has been measured and decent. The admin team will however be watching this thread for any unnacceptable behaviour (on either side).

Done what? One of the problems with the Vietnam War was people tried to bury their head in the sand and pretend like it didn't happen. How do you know that if the new album is about Nam that it is anti-war? And if it is anti-war,it will probably be about how pointless the war was and how the politicians really screwed it up and lost it. I don't think it will be degrading to Vietnam Vets, most of whom(at least the vets I know, and there are many) are extremely bitter and resentful at the way the government handled the war. Well that's a well argued rebuttal which draws on verifiable facts to back up its assertions, and which certainly puts the rest of us in our place.

Sure. I was only trying to say that it's ok for them to use that as a title for their album. IMO the only situation where it would annoy me is if a band was using that album title and would perform in a military look and play all fun/shallow commercial songs that have nothing to do with either war or other serious topics. |

Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about Born In The USA by Bruce Springsteen? I'd recommend reading the lyrics carefully before you respond.
You might be surprised to learn the Viet Nam is a country as well as a war, and has been around a lot longer than 10,000 days.

I didn't say it was about it and don't really think it is.I just wanted to point out that the Vietnam War is also called the 10,000 Day War. And to the topic creator,Maynard might not have been old enough to serve in Nam but he WAS in the Army. |

You don't have to personally experience something to be moved by it or want to write about it.And if they did make a song or album about Nam,who are you to say they are exploiting Vietnam Vets(two of my older brothers are Vietnam veterans, both saw heavy combat during their tours). Do you think Platooon was an exploitation movie? It really raised awareness about Vietnam and what the boys went through over there. Another question.Have you ever served in your country's armed services? Are you a veteran? |

Yes, but the album is neither about the war nor is it making fun of it ... and if it is indeed about the Bush administration (and not about Maynard's mother as some suggest) then it's quite ok to use it IMO. If it IS about his mother and here life is related to that interval (10,000 days) then it's also perfectly valid. I'm really looking forward to listening to this! Thanks Jody, I wasn't aware of that. However it appears that Mike is right about the subject, I also found this in Wikipedia -
"Marie" is the middle name of Maynard James Keenan's deceased mother, Judith Marie Keenan.
As Keenan explains on commentary on aMOTION, his mother suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. The length of time between her paralysis and her death was 27 years, or approximately 10,000 days. |

But the Vietnam War is referred to sometimes as the 10,000 Day War. |
