Alan White is excellent here and throughout the whole album.

so much energy that I believe I read that they dropped it from their setlist on the supporting tour for the album.... hmmm... oh well... great song.

It's wierd, The track has a live feel to it in the first place!

I like Tormato! My favourite song is the first one: Future Times: Rejoice. Very original melody line. Adventurous Yes stuff once again.

Someone referred to my favourite Circus of Heaven as average...To some extent I agree! It is a simple, somewhat naive song, with no extreme intrumental passages. Yet there are some great guitarbits by Howe.

What captures me most are the lyrics.  I´m usually not that fond of Andersons lyrics - there is to much sciencefiction/fantasy/religious mumbojumbo etc. But in this song in all fits in. What a intersting idea - what if the circus of heaven would come to town? The end with a somewhat disapointed Anderson Jr saying "Oh it was Ok, but there was no clowns..." just summons it up. It´s hard to impress the young ones!

"On The Silent Wings Of Freedom" is my favourite closely followed by "Onward".  I gave this album a lot of time when I first bought it but I felt then and now that it's just not the Yes I got into.

"Drama" has more in comparison with the original spirit of Yes and thats got two completely new members.

Ridicule is the burden of genius.

Good poll Winter Wine. I can't believe nobody's voted for "Circus of Heaven"
For me it's a straight choice between Release Release and Silent Wings, and I've gone for Release as I love the chorus.

Honorable mention for Onward - well, the live version on Keys to Ascension anway. What an improvement once the guitar is replaced with an acoustic, and the vocals are just brilliant.

I do like listening to that song as well...  Release, Release is another fun song to listen to...

I do feel Tormato's songs get more flack than they deserve.... the production was an absolute mess and Wakeman really wasn't up to snuff on the album, to say nothing of that ghasty sound he has.... Where was the Hammond Organ!!!???? hahahah.  All in all still a great album if you enjoy listening to virtuosos play over top of each other......otherwise still a fairly good album.

When I bought the album recently I was expecting bad production. The production is fine though and some songs sound very orchestrated, The production gives some tracks like 'Arriving UFO' a kind of boost, Is it just because I have the latest remaster? Which is pretty great on all accounts. I really like the essay in the sleeve too

Wakeman's God forsaking 'Birotron' isn't very nice I agree, He doesn't use it to too much extent though, Which is good, His playing (And songwriting) is on top form and he very often shines on the album.

ahhh.... that's the beauty of music and not relying too much on what you read and judging the music on it's own merits.  From what I understand though.. the group felt differently about Wakeman's input.  You know the ol' Yes motto... if you don't measure up... they'll find someone who will. May well have been the seeds of the upcomming 'break-up'.  Wakeman had patched things up with Anderson.. now Squire and Howe were not happy with Wakeman. Production wise... I don't think it measure up to earlier albums... the lack of Offord in the studio hurt for sure... it's not bad I just don't think it measures up to the stellar standards they had not more than a few albums earlier. Howe and Wakeman both felt the other were encroaching upon their 'areas' and were playing over each other as one example.  It could have been a MUCH better album.. that seems to be the sentiment of the band.. and most fans..

That's odd, Howe called the Wakeman penned 'Madrigal', 'A beautiful moment'.

As Wakeman said 'It could've been tremendous', To be honest I like the richness of Tormato, It has a peculiar unique sound I like! But I do see room for improvement.

take a looksie at page 5 in the liner notes to the Tormato remaster.... Howe and Wakeman disagreed on the arrangements of the guitar and keyboards.  Steve Howe, from stories I've heard over the years, is a perfectionist,  a bit high strung (why he turned to meditation), and prone to feel 'slights'. I tend to believe what I've heard about problems at the time between them. Anyway there is a great story I wish I had time to tell but I need to run.. that is indicutive of Howe's personality on the Symphonic Yes DVD.
