My favourite Greek band is Sorrowful Winds (prog/power metal),

and not only because they are my friends...

hey, why aren't they in the archives yet???

Have not heard all the bands I listed but if you can
find them from memory, Ta Tessera Epipeda Tis
Yparxis (1976) is probably the most keyboard
oriented from the early 70's(think thats the one).
I would suggest that you look at the Greek scene as
being Progressive Folk and similar, but
different(Asia Minor, Indian) to the Italian scene. The
ones with the electronic bombast with ethnic folk
rock are real winners.

Its been years since I heard many of these(about 15,
back in the 80's while in Athens, mostly) so my
memory is charred. I do remember Dimitrus
Poulikakos' Metaforai Ekdomai as being a standout
but may not fit your criteria.

AKRITAS for me.

Wonderful music - nice, complex and undoubtly Greek.

Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)
