So Sincere, from my favourite album of theirs. A groove for the mind rather than the feet.

I would say Octopus or Playing the fool, somewhat easier than In a Glass house.
BTW i started with As the world from Echolyn . A great introduction to their music.

Edit: I just saw you're review of Suffocating so you already know everything about them, it's a great album isn't it? Well if you like Echolyn so much you'll love Gentle Giant.

cowbell, if you indeed give Gentle Giant a chance, be patient as you listen.  The first few times I listened to Octopus, I thought it was dreadful.  Next thing I knew, something "clicked" and I have been a huge fan of Gentle Giant ever since.  There definitely is an "acquired taste" to their music.  Having said that, I would recommend starting with Free Hand or Octopus.

hard to answer since they are all high quality... I'd recommend Octopus.  Can't think of a better place to start.

sad to see there is still only one vote for Schooldays... hahahah.  Something in Gentle Giant for everyone I guess.

Funny ways on Playing the fool is great don't know the original. The only other albums i know are Octopus and Glasshouse and of these albums i think Advent is the best song.

There isn't a GG song I don't like but for today I think I'll go with JUST THE SAME.
Very accessible, great playing (no surprise there), lyrics that become clearerin meaning each time you hear them, a great dreamy middle part to the song takes you somewhere else completly, then a great finale. Beautiful counterpoint gtr & keys.

RD Laing's book changed my life at age 16, so how could I (k)not vote for "Knots"?

Close 2nd: Advent of Panurge
Close 3rd: The Moon Is Down
Close 4th: Isn't It Quiet and Cold?

My girlfriend likes a quite a lot of prog, but no Gentle Giant. Well except 'Wreck', and some songs from their debut. Which means, mainly the GG songs thats not too GG'ish.

Peter Hammill/VdGG (not 'Gog/Magog' or 'Arrow'), Curved Air, italian prog, most folkinspired stuff, all so called proto-prog and even Can and Amon Düül II, we can enjoy together. So I'm happy.

1. This song is very mysterious.
2. "Acquiring The Taste" is my favourite album of Gentle Giant.
3.  This song was my first experience with Gentle Giant .

Same here! Schooldays is a close second.

"Schooldays" is also great. And fourth Shulman is here - Calvin

It's GG's fault. Too many good songs

that's funny about Three Friends.. the guy who did this  poll loves that album just like I do.. and had every song off of that  album but that one as an option..... guess he didn't like it hahha.
