I would like to say Argentina, as we have a good team...but we are in the worst or better yet in the most difficult group...Brazil and Germany have it so easy...and its always like this with Argentina...I think its a conspirecy....well, Im sure Netherlands and the other two countrys (which I dont know how to write in english) are as scared of the competition as we are...any thoughts on this Erik??? I hope the new "wonderboy" Mezzi shows of all his skills...I dont want to see Argentina as a looser from that group!!!

Yes, sleeper, Brazil and England have presently the most consistent teams... but it does not mean that they will win or even reach the finals. The World Cup isn't really a championship but a knock-out tournament: a bad day, a tie with penalty kicks, a referee error, an injuried important player, etc, may cause the elimination of a favorite. For some strange reason I have the impression that a "new" champion may appear: Netherlands, Czech, Spain...
About the Brazilian record in Europe, statistics and history tell a different tale:
- Brazil is the only non-European to win in Europe (1958). No European ever won outside Europe.
- Brazil was the first South American to reach the semis in Europe (1938).
- Brazil was also 4th, in 1974 and runner-up, in 1998.
- No European has such a record in South America.
Playing against the Germans in Germany, Brazil won twice more! And if you remember last year, we won the Confederation Cup (played in Germany, again), defeating Germany and Argentina.

Last I heard Germany wernt that good a team (though I would never count them out in a tournament) and Englandalso had a close victory over Argie last year as well. I just wish we'ed stop scoreing the winning goal in the 93rd minute.

Hey, where's Poland?
Seriously, Brasil has never won in Europe but maybe it will be their first time?

Being from the US i would love to see them win but let's face they
won't. We can't compete with Europe at least not until we get our
heads out of our butts and start liking a truely world wide sport and
not baseball or american football. that's why i voted England but i
wouldn't be surprised to Germany or the Netherlands win.

France will win.
My country will lose against Netherlands (3-1), and we'll be out of the World Cup (sad but true).

Its interesting to note that England are second favourite here on PA (behinde the obvious leaders Brazil) with Italy third. I cant wait to see if any of our predictions/hopes were right. |
Brazil's preference surprises me too, since there are only 5-6 Brazilian visitors constantly here in PA.
Normally those whose national teams are not involved support Brazil and when their teams are eliminated people tend also to support Brazil.
In 2002, I saw in the TV something that left my eyes damp... Palestine and Israeli children together cheering for Brazil. It was much more valuable than the title itself.
BTW, I'm afraid we'll lose... our team whenever favorite has always lost (see 1950, 1966, 1982, 1998) and when no one believes us we got the trophy (see 1958, 1962, 1994, 2002). In 1970, the story was different: there were at least 6 favorites, Brazil included, because the equilibrium was great with some incredible teams - that's why Mexico 1970 is probably the best Cup ever.
|
Its also worth noteing that Brazil and England are the only two members of the "old guard" that have really strong teams consistently (or at least when England can be bothered).
However Flossy (King Of Loss) makes a good point that Brazils European compatition record is lousy.

Well, this is a difficult choice, but I'm guessing my country will peak (finally).
An final against Brazil would be the most logical choice, and I can't hardly believe that we will beat them. When you've got a player like Ronaldinho in your team, your almost sure of the Cup.
But again: I'm voting for The Netherlands. We MUST reach the final, at least.

With Ronaldinho and Adriano Brazil is the bigger favorite!
But Netherlands and Czech Republic are very strong too.

Brazil is overwhelming. It would be nice if someone else won( not England or Gemany if it's possible please).
