A lot of cds are out of print. I could post my list from discogs. Pretty much everything I have on there is out of print on cd.
![]() I think because of the mass media's judgement that cds are a dying format, there is little interest in record companies to repress out of print cds (especially prog which is considered very niche to begin with). Edited by AFlowerKingCrimson - January 01 2022 at 13:40 |

I wish a wealthy eccentric who believes in merit and doesn't care about profit come along and invest in Prog. Is determined to license recordings either by contacting the original label or the artist themselves and paying them whatever they want. Design the cover to its true value, history in a booklet, etc..but release it a second time or a third time so the cd never goes out of print A person of this nature comes along once in a lifetime. The person's main interest is Prog, they are so wealthy they can afford to lose money, and the act itself brings them happiness..and it would solve an on going problem for all the hardcore supporters of Progressive Rock who would die for specific obscure Prog releases but are in a price range between 2 and 3 hundred dollars.

Sadly this is always a concern, which has added a little extra push when buying new CDs. Its always best not to wait and to buy. This obviously donsn't help with older, OOP stuff, but would prevent the situation from arising in the future.

I see that one used at our local music store from time to time. Just a quick glance on Discogs, it's not really that hard to find or ridiculously expensive even for the newer remastered versions. I do recommend the remastered versions because they are of much better quality than some of the original CD releases.

I bought a copy through Import CD's on eBay a few years ago for about $20 AUD. 2014 reissue. Got a few of theirs for around the same price. You may be in luck.

Grits : As the World Grits, on Cuneiform. A totally amazing mid 70s band who never had a proper album release until Cuneiform released their demos in the early 90s. Now out of print, and according to Steve Fiegenbaum, it is next to impossible that we will ever see a reissue (due, IIRC, to the wishes of the deceased composer’s estate).
Thankfully I have a copy, but it’s sad that many more will not hear this band. Cuneiform keeps a close eye on illegal uploads of their releases too, so you won’t find it on YouTube. I certainly respect that vigilance, but still, I wish the music could come to light again. Edited by HolyMoly - December 28 2021 at 18:29 |

Thanks Jared - I'll look into that - have to see if I can listen to it on YouTube first and see if I like the live version |

Reissuing CDs that are OOP, I doubt that happens. You might get a reissue of the CD on LP before, your best bet is to scour the ebay as well Discogs. But finding some of them for a couple bucks aint gonna happen, especially obscure titles.
I'm also a physical media guy, but only LPs, there are many many titles that only came out on CD that are now out on LP version, but I'm not thinking the reverse will happen. I did buy a CD the other day, it was Gabriel's soundtrack for Passion-Last Temptation of Christ, bought for $1. You can't buy a pack of gum for a $1.......

In 1980 I collected all 10 volumes of Brian Eno's Obscure label series. Over the last 30 years possibly 4 or 5 of those volumes have been issued on cd . I've always dreamed of a box set. Each one as a gatefold with the original black covers. A booklet which details the history of the project. I would also love the entire catalog of Ron Geesin to be released on cd just like they were released on LP in the 70s . It seems highly unlikely

Agree wholeheartedly with the comments on Sing to God! That's one I do own on CD and it was worth every one of its £24 from Alphabet. Cardiacs' masterpiece without any doubt (without any doubt in my mind anyway) |

All CARDIACS cds are available on the official website. I don't think they are expensive at all considering how much they went for before they were reissued. 24 pounds for Sing To God may sound expensive but it's a freaking masterpiece! |

Expensive, but so worth it. Plus when you buy from the Alphabet Business Concern you can be assured that at least 0.5% of the money will go to the undeserving wretches in the band. Edited by Mascodagama - December 28 2021 at 05:28 |

Thanks! I don't know why it never occurred to me to look there. Sing To God may still be a little too pricey for my taste but I suppose that's to be expected of a double album
Really tragic, that; what do you do when the artist herself seemingly no longer wants her work, or anything else about herself, to be available to the public? I currently have 3 CDs by her, but my collection won't truly be complete until I get my hands on her bizarre crossover album with Weird Al Yankovic...

This got a vinyl reissue this year (multiple pressings), so...fingers crossed!
The 2010 Japanese remaster is readily available, but it's not cheap! ![]()
CD-R only. These sorts of things only turn up when another collector on a site such as this wants to offload some merch.
A bona fide rarity!
This definitely needs a reissue.
This album has been reissued on CD many times in a jewel case or paper-sleeve (vinyl replica) format. The recent Sony reissues and the 2015 L'Espresso remaster are easy to find.
CD-R only. I doubt it will get a proper reissue unless a mystery benefactor chooses to issue their entire discography as a box set.

Still keeping an eye out for Ruth White cds and most Electronic artists in the U.S. during the 60s. Mort Garson's 2 occult albums were released on cd and I picked those up quickly. Now they appear to be going out of print. Beaver And Krause Ragnarok has never been released on cd. Paul Beaver was a great pioneer of the synthesizer and an innovator . Ragnarok I want just for 3 Electronic pieces. I'm not particularly fond of the album. One Beaver & Krause album on Limelight and several bizarre Ruth White releases on Limelight. Wendy Carlos I have about 6 cds and most of her back catalog is out of print. I would seriously like to have the early Stomu Yamashta on cd. When he was more of an Avant-garde artist collaborating with others and prior to going to England , working with Hugh Hopper, Gary Boyle, etc and releasing about 5 solo albums that were Prog...sometimes sounding Canterbury with an Asian "feel" and Esoteric released those. Then he disappeared into a monastery for about a year and surfaced again with ceremonial music such as the Iroha-Ka series which was some of the darkest Electronic music and practically demonic. . Then he did the soundtrack to Tempest which was beautiful. All of the aforementioned have never been released on cd...ugh! He lives in a temple writing ceremonial music . I really hope to see this stuff released one day...but I sincerely doubt it ever will be.
