I could make a Discord if anyone's interested. It doesn't have to be affiliated with Progarchives.com.

For those who don't realize the benefit of Discord, it's basically a bunch of channels that you can jump between seemlessly--channels are similar to forums in a way, but messaging others is much easier because the communication is live, like chat rooms.

Does that make sense? It's a nice place to bundle forums in a way.

So, I could access a forum where people talk about prog just as easily as I could access a forum where they talk about guitar.

Anyhow, I appreciate that this site exists. I do. Its UI is just a bit dated and I prefer sticking with the times--no offense to some.

Discord also has voice chat rooms--which is neat.

So, yeah. Would anyone want me to make a Discord?

I’ve said it before on another thread, but this forum is a relic of the past and so are a lot of its members. I’m one of those relics, and realistically the only reason I moved to FB is that EVERY forum I was a member of slowly moved over to FB - except this one, obviously.

I am fairly sure I will eventually move to Diacord, too, just because musicians and artists are finding their reach on FB so diminished, and they can do all they canon FB, and more, by using Diacord. Honestly, the only reason I haven’t moved yet is because I don’t like the white on black format, as I find it harder on the eye than black on white. But just as I reluctantly moved to FB from the security of the forums I used to inhabit, so I can see myself reluctantly moving to Discord.

(NB - There is no negative connotation in relic, so as per the old saying, “offence is taken, nor given”.)

There's a discord site we use as a chatroom on Saturday nights while gagliarchives is broadcasting. Just a bunch of friends chatting.

This is sadly true... I dismayingly observed that when I was a teacher. Fidget spinner was the worst...
I work with young people a lot too. Fidget spinners are what video game addicts do when they are having withdrawals. They were invented by satan.

Oh, I'm glad that I had changed my job before Satan invented this (see the video below). Or was it aliens' craft?

No, the worse is some young 5hithead engineer doing the pen spin on his/her fingers during meetings. If I had my way I'd tell them to put it down stop being so distracting.

The fact that I can just open up discord and talk with a big group of big Camel or Hatfield and the North fans in real time.... well pardon me for being a little enveloped in it. I’ve also discovered a lot of great music through it, and we’ll often have listening parties which isn’t really something you can do on a forum.
Pet rocks and mood rings? When I was a kid, it was yoyos, wrist rockets, and BB guns. And marbles, which was probably the equivalent of spinners.

^ Exactly - I prefer to keep my Twitter account locked, that way I can keep my thoughts between my confirmed followers.

The first rule of Twitter:

Don't say anything to upset vegans, LGBT+ activists, cyclists, feminists, or religious nutters.

FB is a good way for me to keep in touch with far-flung friends and family that I don't see in person. but Twitter?Dead  Twitter is just full of psychos (your good self excluded of course). I only use it to complain to companies.

As for myself, I can say that I played truant and went to arcades a lot when I was small. But, I was different in school... Well, I wasn't an obedient saint, but I wasn't playing with stupid things too... Anyway, I guess we weren't blaming the youngsters here. Believe me, they deserved it actually. The teenage students are the biggest pain in the ass for teachers. Wink
