He also was a member of the gun lobby. As to great SF-movies he starred in I'd like to add "Soylent Green". |

Since no-one seems to know which movie my line ("They wanted - us"!) is from I will tell: It is from the movie "Phase IV" by Saul Bass. It is a movie about intelligent (but normal-sized) ants.

And I agree with that Rutger Hauer's monologue is one of the best scenes ever.

A bit left-field, but if 'time travel' counts as sci-fi - then I'll mention 'Somewhere in Time' - a bit of a cheesy 80s romance with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Basically he wills himself to travel back to 1912 to meet a woman in a photograph who he knows he was destined to meet. However, the scene that sticks is when he sees a 1979 coin he has and the spell breaks as he realises this time travel status is not real. Unable to get back in time again, he dies of a broken heart to the strains of Rachmaninov's Variations of a Theme by Paganini. Quite memorable - have to say it would make a great prog rock concept album! .

He tasks me. He tasks me, and I shall have him. I'll chase him round the Moons of Nibia and round the Antares Maelstrom and round Perdition's flames before I give him up! - Khan Noonien Singh, Star Trek II
Lord Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When does THIS happen in the move? Col. Sandurz: NOW. You're looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now is happening now. Lord Dark Helmet: Go back to then! Col. Sandurz: What? Lord Dark Helmet: THEN! Col. Sandurz: I can't! Lord Dark Helmet: Why not? Col. Sandurz: We passed it! Lord Dark Helmet: When? Col. That moment in Predestination where you discover that the man (who was previously a woman), the woman (who later becomes the man), and the child they have are all the same person.

But yeah, that's a memorable movie moment, for sure.
How about this funny (if misogynist and grisly) last line from post-apocalyptic cult classic A Boy and His Dog (spoken by the dog, Blood, as the boy muses on his dead love Quilla: "Well I'd say she certainly had marvelous judgement, Albert, if not particularly good taste." ![]() ![]() |

^Yeah, Charlton was a mixed bag. He did Planet of the Apes and The Omega Man, but also hosted "The Mysterious Origins of Man" which was filled with crackpot pseudoscience and creationism.

I thought that was Moses after crossing the Red Sea... or was it an NRA ad, after Obama won the presidency? ![]() As with Tom Cruise, I find it hard to separate the man/arsehole from the role. ![]() |

The ending scene of The Planet of the Apes (the 1968 film) where George Taylor (played by Charlton Heston) discovers the remains of the Statue of Liberty.
