Crime of the Century - a classic album!

I think the first 4 ELO have a decent prog approach with accessible songs.....after that they became a pop vehicle for Lynn.
Supertramp always seemed like 'prog lite' to me though with some decent tracks here and there.
That ELO album is pop all the way ,,,Do Ya is a decent rocker but taken from when Lynn was with The Move.
I suppose Crime is the better album....track for track regarding a prog theme.. yet imho it's an overrated work.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Crime of the Century is one of the best ever, but ELO is amazing, too...

Although I like ELO - A New World Record, Supertramp - Crime of the Century is one of my favourite albums, so that gets my vote by quite a large margin.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I see where this thing is going ; 2 quite Commercially successful albums that teeter on the brink of outright Pop music, along with the more clever, boundary-pushing ideals of Prog-rock, all meshed in an acceptable, compact package.
To me, ELO were far more eclectic in their approach than Supertramp. Though I prefer the 'tramp overall.

They're about equal for me. Both 8/10ers. No vote.

Oh, stop it already with these ludicrous comparisons.

I prefer the Supertramp album.
Btw, Triumvirat toured with both bands in the same year (1975) in North America.
      Those were the days!

Supertramp on this one. I liked ELO until "El Dorado", after that, I lost interest.

COTC is one of those albums where every track is superb, and I never tire of listening to the whole thing end to end.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

NWR isn't even an ELO top 5 album with me.

Both great, but I don't think ELO ever recorded anything as good as COTC.

COTC is a masterpiece from start to finish, and I'm ashamed to say that for many years, I just didn't see it, but then at one point I thought Marillion were one of the best prog rock bands ever, so go figure!
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
