2 pitches, 2 home runs. Insane.
Already more clutch than A Rod has been since 2009LOL

Good move, because Ibanez is hot and Rod is not the same player as he was. Must be tough for Rod's ego, but with that 2 home runs, he could thank him.

Doesn't look good for the Reds today either.

As long as Scherzer pitches as well as he has in the 2nd half, there is still hope tonight, but not if they can't score any runs.

It very well could though. If their offense is that sluggish again, I don't see any way they could beat the A's at home. Especially given how good they were at home this season.

The Tigers were absolutely awful last night.  0 runs on 4 hits.  Only 2 hard hit balls all night and both were from Fielder and both were caught on amazing plays.  Otherwise the best offense that they displayed was striking out on pitches that bounced to the backstop and making the A's catcher throw them out at first to complete the strikeout.  I've seen this ugly offensive display far too many times this year.  I hope that it doesn't rear its ugly head again tonight.

If the Reds continue to play like they did in the first 2 game against the Giants (I think last night was a fluke tbh), then I might ask you to retract that. Wink

In all seriousness though, without Strasburg, I don't think the Nats' pitching is better than the Reds. And that's not me being biased. In particular, I don't see any of the other 7 teams in the playoffs this year having as good of a bullpen or being as consistent.

On the first page of this thread I made my regular season predictions.  This is where I'd be grading them, if they weren't so depressing.  Giving myself a D-.

Don Kelly has a run and an RBI without an official at bat. He has the highest WAR in history! Higher even than Ben Zobrist, who should have been MVP two out of the last three years based on WAR (forget Justin Verlander, Josh Hamilton or Miguel Cabrera - their stats are made up). So what if Kelly batted .186 this year, batting average is an arbitrary number for old people.Wink

Yeah, Verlander looked like a beast today. And obviously the Tigers are going to need that going forward.

I don't believe it. Cueto leaves the game in the first inning, but we still already have 3 runs scored. This has to be by far one of the most resilient teams I've ever seen in the years I've been watching baseball. If my Reds win tonight, I think the Giants are done for. It's also nice to know they've learned how to score runs again when they went through all of September with such a big hitting slump.

Verlander looked pretty shaky the first 3 innings, but end results were great.  Good to win a game with both Fielder and Cabrera having oh-fers.   And who was that guy in the 9th inning getting the A's out 1-2-3?

But it was nice to see Verlander with 11 K's in the opener with Fister starting tomorrow. I think the A's did the Tigers a huge favor beating the Rangers. I'd much rather see the Tigers face the A's, no matter how many games they won at the end of the season.

Apparently the idea behind the starting on the road is due to adding the 1 extra day for the wild card game.  They eliminate 1 travel day by having the series as 2 road 3 home versus having it 2 home 2 road 1 home.  In theory this keeps it on track with prior year playoffs.  It kind of seems like a bunch of BS to me though.
