you know what i think?

i think they shouldn't change at all.. in fact, i think they should be even more overtech, even more self-indulgent, pretentious, "commercial" and they should shamelessly continue to rip off uncut Rush and Yes themes.. may they live and prosper for many many years...

am i being ironiic? not at all...

they are the reason i am here and so they are for most of the progheads younger than 30.. so, as long as they introduce prog music to the world, i have absolutely no problem..

bear in mind that SDOIT, Octavarium and SC were a huge dissapointment to me but that doesn't matter...

on top of that, not only fans, but many of the bands that are in PA's database wouldn't be here, if it weren't for them...

go ask Inside Out and Magna where they would be right now if it weren't for them...

face it, dudes: Marillion and DT held prog alive in the 80's and 90's, correspondingly...
-music is like pornography...

sometimes amateurs turn us on, even more...

-sometimes you are the pigeon and sometimes you are the statue...

Just a minute. I'm not a prog-metal fanboy at all. I love symphonic prog and post-rock just as much as prog-metal, so the unfounded claims about that are completely false.

Secondly, there have been continuous complaints in similar threads about prog-metal, and you just go in there, complete with delusions of grandeur from some sort of musical knowledge you have, and blatently put down prog-metal in general, seemingly just to annoy people.

And you can quit the patronising crap immediately, you may have been here longer than me, whether that makes you think you're more entitled to sl*g people off with unfounded comments, I don't know.

And yes, thanks for telling me that other people have different ideas, I accept them and take them as they should be. Subjective. Yet it's the way you phrase things and completely make a genre YOU disagree, something miniscule and insignificant.

Get over yourself. You're not quite the messiah-like figure you think you are.

Certif1ed has been here awhile and has seen much combat, maybe he just got a bit fed up... other than that, I don't see his comments being any worse than others in this thread

That's all my point. Some irony is good (I love it) but that was not even ironic, that was... humor-less..... he has all the right to say that but the consequences were obvious. If he just wanted to piss people off, he did it. (I don't think so).

Anyway, that also doesn't give the right to nobody to call somebody else an idiot. That's what I'm talking about when I say "idiotic rants".

All I say is that a bit of irony doesn't kill anyone...... and such people who react inmaturely are finally banned or at least warned. I wanna believe that Certif1ed knew how passionately some people would reply against his commentary, before posting it.

I'm not. I'm just saying that comments like Cert1fied's are perfect to incite all kind of idiotic rants.... There was no need for that comment. We all are smart enough to know what they could cause. I have done things like that, and I learned.

I'm glad you ask... I thought I was the only one who couldn't hear any prog in what they do Tongue

You must be kidding.
How many times to people have to be told you don't like prog metal?
It's just tedious now. Yes we get it you like Genesis and want to stay back in the 70's, but times have changed, prog metal exists, it's more complex than symphonic prog and that's one immediate prog attribute. Live with it.

No, you must be kidding.

I have made it very clear a number of times that I have nothing against Prog Metal whatsoever - you're making up your own story here.

I do not want to stay back in the 1970s - your slurs are most unwelcome.

I didn't realise that prog metal exists - thanks for telling me.

...and what I have heard of it is NOT more complex than symphonic prog - how you can say it is more complex is totally baffling.

I don't need to be told by some voracious prog metal fanboy who thinks that the only good music is prog metal, eats, sleeps and probably craps prog metal that my opinions are somehow wrong.

People have different ideas to you - LIVE WITH IT.

Well Certi....... first of all, have a pair of clappies for that last answer Big%20smile

ClapClap

Now, I ask you: I personally dislike DT but I consider them, anyway, a prog band, in the sense that they are complex (more than symphonic prog? Arguably), they have that epicosity (or epicness?) thing and, in general, there is a permanent use of odd time signatures and countless beat changes..... Then, what does make you state the abscense of prog in DT?

Symphonic Rock is more about structures and harmonic invention... Many people think that what makes a band complex is the speed of the playing, the amount of sections a song has or the changes in time signature. I do know what Cert1fied means and to a degree I concurr. I'm DT's famous fanboy but I can recognize that.

Cert1fied, you could avoid idiotic remarks like the one below (or above) my post and the one you answered to just by... ignoring prog-metal threads or at least not making stingy jokes like the one you made. You know how people will react. Is there any need for this?

Peace and Prog... And DT for all mankind...Tongue

certif1ed must be an idiot if he can't tell that DT is in fact prog.  They are more prog than any other progmetal band anywhere.  I have over 100 progmetal cds and progmetal is not the only genre I listen to.  I can't get away from U2 fanatics that think they are experts on Dream Theater. Opinionated morons ruin more threads and they can FOAD.

They just need to go through some tough times again. Like when they were just writing songs in basements...with the sh*tty feeling of no singer. Some of my favorites are dedications to love ones that passed away. They can't be happy...basically.

But as much as I like Dream Theater I can't really agree with that statement ... I would say that Prog Metal is generally more complex and demanding in terms of musicianship and "dexterity"/"discipline" of the musicians. Classic Symphonic Prog on the other hand can be much more involved in terms of composition and lyrical/musical sophistication. Also, prog metal often uses rather rigid form and song/track structure, while classic symphonic prog is more open to experimentation and generally less "tight" in terms of pre-defined structure.

Anyway: There's no reason to not like both!Smile

Yeah I know, in fact I am a big fan of both. But I think you hit the nail on the head in the way in which they're complex and I agree, there are differing degrees of complexity in different areas of their music.
Yet, I still get annoyed at his terrible attitude towards metal in general. Hence my rant.
