the whole action is very questionable for several reasons:
a) just reverse the situation - a Pakistan elite squad invades USA territory and kills a person who is alleged to be a terrorist, without informing the USA government. what would you think of that? would you all applaud it to? I seriously doubt it, and the USA would probably take it as an act of war, and rightly so.
b) there has never been any trial against Bin Laden, not even an in effigie trial. you may say that Bin Laden himself confessed to have been behind  the 9/11 terrorist acts. that, however, is no evidence at all; anyone could confess to that; he may just have been bragging about it (interestingly in Talmudic law the accused can't even bear witness against himself, by the way). all we have as proof that he is behind the 9/11 attacks are the allegations of the Bush administration (which were made just a few hours after the 9/11 attacks, by the way - quite miraculous crime solving).
get me right: I am not trying to defend a terrorist, I am just questioning the legality of the American actions. what if Bin Laden had hid in your country? would you have wanted an USA elite squad eliminating him, without even telling your government about it? I seriously doubt it

Was going to make a clubbing related joke but I almost got in trouble for that before.  That is cute though, not as cute as a wee kitten but cute, nonetheless.

I'll be happy when the NBA season ends and they enter their lockout.  Here's hoping it lasts years and years and years.  More power to the Dolphins if they somehow prevent the NE Cheatriots from dump passing their way to the playoffs.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled bouts of pointless whining and bitter complaining.

Nothing wrong with the journalism. A white house spokesman made the comment which was later revealed to be false.

Typical quality of journalism from the United States I suppose (unless it was a report from another source outside the U.S.)

Sorry I believe in trial even for mad dogs, whatever they are.

I don't care what his reasons were. He represented no government, in fact he was kicked out of every decent country he'd ever been in. He did not represent Muslims worldwide. He and his self-funded organization, al-Qaeda claimed responsbility for the following:

I am as uninterested in his taking a bullet to the head as he was in slaughtering thousands upon thousands of innocent men. women and children -- Muslims, Christians, Jews or those holding no religious or political beliefs whatsoever. Even a few anarchists, I am sure.

If you wish the same for a good bit of US politicians, I disagree with you but will at least respect that you're consistent.

Can a conspiracy theory ever be true? What is that says that all conspiracy theories are lunacy or bullsh*t? I'm just asking because I think we haven't discussed this on PA (or maybe we have, we have discussed everything). Really, why? I'm notbsaying I believe in bin Laden still being alive or in him having died in 2000, but I still don't see why a conspiracy theory is always so lunatic. Is it just the need of most of society to portray as "abnormal" anything that is outside of the general norm? Adaptation to society's canons is still the measurement of normalcy? Or it theren something more?

Theorhetically, a conspiracy theory could be true, but in reality they are simply always too improbable. People aren't really that good at keeping secrets in general and most of the popular theories would require at least hundreds of people to know about them. The belief that there are massive conspiracies everywhere is just not tenable by a rational person.

Osama bin Laden already admitted to perpatrating the 9/11 attacks. A trial woud have been nothing but a farce and a media circus with possible suicide bombers or at the least a defiant bin Laden spewing his militant nonsense for Al-Jazeera to broadcast to his adoring zealots. A bullet to the chest and a bullet to the head and he's dead. That's what one does with mad dogs. Next comes al-Zawahiri.

Yeah, but when you originally posted that I thought it was more "Don't risk your life trying to capture him in a firefight", not shooting an unarmed man in the head.

It has nothing to do with the norms of society, many crazy ideas are fairly well accepted among the populace (this website wouldn't have to be so strident if that were not the case). I have never seen a conspiracy theory that isn't lunacy (and I've spent a fair amount of time on this, so you probably aren't going to be able to present something new to me). I am aware that there have been conspiracies in the past, but they all either were on a much, much smaller scale than what people normally present and/or failed. Because yeah, MKULTRA was some f**king crazy sh*t, and maybe the government is still doing horribly unethical things like that today, I don't know. But that's a far cry from actually being able to use mind control or engineering 9/11. If something were not insane, it wouldn't be a conspiracy theory. Is this an overly black and white view of reality? Probably. Do I care? No, life is too short for me to continue to argue with crazy people about the f**king melting point of steel.
