^ he sometimes makes mistakes in his videos
nevertheless he's channel is pretty good, he still introduces people to a lot of music, he's passionate and the mistakes he makes can be forgiven.

Well, for a guy above 40, (I'd give him between 55 & 60), he's still got hairs (and plenty), which is a lot more than many can say.Evil Smile
He should fix that tooth, though. LOL

This said, I just quickly ffwd through his Renaissance appraisal and find him indeed fairly shallow: not only is he not sure about what he's saying, he's reading the tracks or participants (he's even mentionning drummer Slade - instead of Sullivan)  and almost totally disregarding the ex-Yardbirds line-up (does he even own them at all?) not even showing the albums, as opposed to those crappy 80's and 00's albums, which he obviously owns.

How can someone knowing so little about a band's embryonic days can be assessing them correctly? Dead

It's not just a question of tastes (and publishing them), but a question of credibility:
- I mean the Yardbirds "were still looking around and trying to find the Renaissance style"?? Shocked Looks like the Dunford-Haslam duo never tried any further in that case, because they owe everything to the MkI line-up.
- Tout one of the best bassist? Weeeelllllllllllllllll, he owes eveything to Cennamo.
- AFAIK,Tatcher wasn't involved in the band in the early days.

I'd hate to hear his appraisal of other bands.
I agree Sean. I was waiting for someone to spill the goods on Pardo. What Relf and McCarty did in the mach 1 Renaissance was nothing short of phenomenal. And that it includes Hawken and Cennamo. Incredible musicians! Sea of Tranquility has always been a second rate prog site in my opinion. I just didn't want to sound like sour grapes.

And his hair does suck. The 70s keep calling to get it back. ;)

I love the live part of Ummagumma, but I think the album's badly let down by some of the weird studio tracks, such as the bizarrely titled "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" Wacko

Yeah, the live part is great, but many times when I pull the album out I go straight to the studio tracks. Even though the band themselves might think what they made was rubbish (as I think Waters and Mason have said publicly) and Gilmour was apparently bullsh*tting his way through his portion, I think this stuff was wonderfully creative.

If I was rich and had a time machine, I would have gone back in time and paid them loads of money to make 10 more albums worth of Ummagumma studio tracks at the risk of ruining the Pink Floyd timeline and having a run-in with Doctor Who.
And how many times have Pink Floyd played music off the studio tracks of Ummagumma live in concert? Not even Nick Mason's band, which plays the early music of Pink Floyd, plays this music. That's telling us all that Ummagumma isn't a very good album except for the live material.

I completely disagree with that assessment. I judge the music by listening to it, not whether a band plays it live or not. That doesn't seem like a very creative way of using your brain.
Personally I prefer to use my brain appreciating music that bands poured their creative energies into that didn't get the critical acclaim that the music deserved. Just a pity that a lot of people worship the big 4-6 Prog bands, even their lesser works like Ummagumma, while so many other less known bands are producing great albums that few people are listening to.

^ I initially gave We Can't Dance & Calling All Stations 3-star ratings, but I think I was being overly-generous in retrospect. Smile

I'll have Pete Pardo's Sea of Tranquility rankings for Renaissance' albums coming up next.

Everybody calls it differently. I like Pete Pardo because he's fun and I don't pay much attention to his ratings. Music is taken too seriously by some people, especially by a few who subscribe to Prog Rock. If people could relax a little more and not take themselves too seriously the world would be a better place. Pete Pardo is one who doesn't take himself seriously and that's why I like him.

That's true. It's the first time our album rankings have even come close, and the only Genesis album ranking we really disagree on significantly is their debut album. We actually agreed on the exact placing of six albums in the list and we have the same albums in our Top 7, which surprised me. Smile
