I read on his Facebook page that he wants suggestions of what else to upload onto his Soundcloud page. Someone should suggest all the In Absentia demos up that never made the album!!!

Look in here, there's loads of good stuff to download (including LONDON). There's also a 6min + version of Blackfield...

It's not going to happen any time soon.

Hehe, Porcupine Tree are easily one of the most energetic live acts I've ever seen. And as for adding some new improv stuff to their live recordings, check out the Arriving Somewhere (DVD) versions of Open Car and Hatesong - Open Car has a whole new section, and Hatesong has an extended guitar and drum section full of jamming. They also have a 4 or 5 minute improv break on the Coma Divine live album during Radioactive Toy. Gavin also literally changes and adds flourishes to his drumming for most tracks they play live, too.

Hehe, sorry for ranting, but I definitely don't see what you're getting at. As Kashmir/Keyspoet mentioned, they have insane energy and control in the flesh, too.

I couldn't have said it better.  Never in my life have I followed a band on tour, but I saw PT five times during The Incident tour - and, as Kashnir75 said, they rocked the house every single time!!!

They are quite simply outstanding live.

I think you have no idea what PT is all about. You must be talking about Dream Theater. Tongue

I loved A Western Home as well.  Excellent track.

BTW - Marek and I saw The Legendary Pink Dots last night at the Orpheum Theatre in Ybor City (Tampa), FL.  Tiny venue, I counted 42 people in the audience, but amazing sound and what a performance!  Wonderful musicians and Edward Ka-spel's lyrics often reminded me of Steven Wilson's darker ventures.  His delivery reminded me more of the Syd Barrett era of Pink Floyd - very intricate and intimate, with unflinching details.

Interestingly, in speaking with Edward Ka-spel after the show, when I mentioned being a fan of Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson, he said that Wilson had recently contacted him for the first time.  No idea as to whether a collaboration is in the making, but what a collaboration it would be - definitely one worth waiting for!

I was getting worried too, but it just got delivered about half a minute ago... And on a saturday Ah well, gonna fire this up right now The DVD is amazingly presented.

So glad you finally got yours as well.

I finally got a chance to watch mine last night - as good as I remembered from the premiere, and I enjoyed the extras, especially the Q&A from Mexico.  And, as you say, great presentation.

The convenience of an MP3 player makes it almost necessary for serious music listeners anyway. I would be lost without it to listen to music on public transport (though I also read books sometimes too).

That said, nothing beats the experience of listening to a PT album in DTS on a good stereo whilst looking through the artwork/liner notes, etc. This is what SW's refers too, and I completely agree.

BUT there is also a time and place for MP3's on an iPod.

I think SW's disappointed that there are many people who only listen to MP3's (probably mainly Gen Y) - and are really missing out on a quality listening experience. He rightly acknowledges that many make up for it with the live experience though.

On a different  note, thought the Insurgented DVD was great; I especially like the 6 bonus tracks, and the remix of Insurgentes is very cool.

But on the other hand, I ask myself why I started making music in the first place. It certainly wasn’t to make money or to be famous. I think the man just really appreciates the art of music.

His position may have softened on the whole idea of the download since Insurgentes came out a couple of years ago.  The movie is a little dated now.

I have to agree with him though.  I much prefer to have all the packaging, artwork, credits, etc. along with the physical copy of the disc.  Can't have everything that way though and so there is room for the downloaded copy of something.  Will take the physical copy of an album every time over the digital.

I think a lot of people struggle with the download question, and find ways of explaining it to themselves (mine: I have rarely bought an album without hearing something from it first, and that includes bands I desperately loved.  And even then I ended up with some real dogs in my collection...).  Periods of transition are always difficult, but I rather strongly suspect that neither musicians nor music buyers are going to become extinct.  Things will just be different (remember: television didn't really spell the end of the movie theatre, it just became different).

I have no argument with the album as art, though.  None at all (she says, looking through her Roger Dean album cover collection....)  Wink

This is pretty much the same thing he said during the Q&A at IFC after the Insurgentes premiere.  Here is a video clip I took of it.
