I can't agree with Walter that music is "dead" (I like plenty of other newer music), but I don't seem to like any grunge. I find it painful. (I think radio music went way downhill when it came along.)
To me, "prog grunge" would seem to be oxymoronic. (Even the words would seem to be at odds.)
But carry on! I only post this by way of representing one -- perhaps mainly older -- prog fan perspective on grunge.

That's not in the options.
Grunge, for me, was a great revival of 70's hard rock with 80's metal influences. A great relief from weak metal genres like Power Metal and Glam Metal, and it's good to know that these were popular unlike other 90's stuff that was complete crap.
Though I know you just are an unshamed post-eighties-phobic.

Alice in Chains is the best grunge band without a shadow of a doubt. Soundgarden and PJ are tied for second. Then Nirvana.

Anyway, my favorite is not them, for me it has to be Eddie Vedder & Co. |
Not quite but it was a good guess And yes Pearl Jam happens to be my favorite "grunge" band although they're not really grunge.

This Thread was made to test a theory of mine ( and to win a bet with my friend ). I have noticed that a fair amount prog-lovers have a certain liking for one or two grunge bands. Now some of the Grunge bands, which have been mentioned above, have been influenced mostly by Punk and Metal but also, to a lesser extent, by progressive rock, whether the bands know it or not .
Even though some bands are just loud and obnoxious (Sorry Nirvana fans) Kurt Cobain listed "Red" by King Crimson as a major influence.
Now to the theory of mine. I want to see which is the favorite Grunge band of my fellow prog enthusiasts. If my theory is correct that certain band will get the most votes by far.
Hope you guys like even though it's not really prog-related . I will post that certain bands name when enough votes come in.
