Lady Gaga

If it's so easy to be successful at pop music then why isn't everybody? I mean Gentle Giant were some of the most skilled musicians of their time and they absolutely bombed at mainstream pop.

 

Truth be told, even if pop has a predominately profit motive. That doesn't make it all crap with no effort put into it. Michael Jackson and Prince for example were genuinely talented performers and songwriters who put passion into what they did. And Madonna, love her or hate her, she's managed to stay on top of the pop music biz for 3 decades and she's the only pop diva who has managed to do that. She's certainly not the best singer or the most attractive, but she has the best songs of the whole lot and weither or not that credit should go to her or her collaborators doesn't matter to me that much.

 

Granted her use of provocative imagery helped, Gaga does something similar which might be a key to her success. But then again Gaga isn't the only chick with a reputation for crazy over the top costumes (points to avatar) but her music is also very accessible while still sounding at least a little different from all the other pop that's out in full force now. She's a pretty good piano player too. So I can appreciate her even if her music isn't for me.

I don't. Whatever entertain my ears in a particular moment goes. Of course I have preferences and music that I listen to more than 80% of the time (see my signature for a clue) and prog is just below it but also in the important side. But a 5% of the time I might find myself listening to whatever suits me without having to consider the music's purpose, origins, commercial status and genre. 

 

Lady Gaga's music and voice even sound a bit like Madonna.

 

Every stage act has its stars, its themes, etc. Both Madonna and Lady Gaga's are only loosely about music. No visuals, no act. As opposed to a classical orchestra which has very little visually going on (I suppose Gentle Giant would fall in there too). Genesis would be in the middle, as the stage visuals were an important part of their act as well.

 

Is the act anything other than a variation on an old flavor of candy? No, but not much is really.

She is a self-confessed fame monster. Gorgeous, a body to die for, a personality like a cracked whip, attitude as far as you can shove into a black hole, and R&B rhythms that casue pple to girate like  vibrating jackhammers. The perfect package! I saw her on American Idol - great role model for the young audience with her sexualised suggestive stage act, scantily clad women and spiteflu lyrics - thanks Gaga for adding to more confusion of GenY who swallow all your lies and deceptions. And everyone is buying into this crap despite the fact you are a MANUFACTURED PLASTIC FANTASY.

 

Despite all this 'Poker face' is infectious...
