Royals sweep the Rangers. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.

I'll respect a steroid popper with some team loyalty more than I'll ever respect an avarice driven player like A-Rod who'd stab his team the back if the money is in it.

Well, his agent does. Last I heard Scott Boras was talking $30M/year, for like 6 or 7 years. Not many teams willing or able to pay that (I don't think he has a prayer of getting a deal like that, personally).

Three reasons:
1. A (somewhat) descent collective bargaining agreement which allows the smaller markets to compete with the fat @#$&! like the Yankees and Red Sox.
2. Owner David Glass FINALLY ponying up some money.
3. The termination of GM Allard Baird and bringing on Atlanta Braves' front office man Dayton Moore.
If memory serves, the Tigers haven't had much success up until a few years ago. Actually, the AL Central was once a laughing stock but now is one of the better divisions in the league.
Baseball STILL has a long way to go, however.
E | The Tigers didn't.... but it nice to see baseball.. yes.. slowly turn things around and give the smaller markets a chance. KC deserves a decent team on the field.... man that was ugly for awhile. The seeds were sown by Billy Bean though.. who showed with some great planning and a good farm system, ie. young talent... you can win in baseball today. If not for the damn Yankee's... the A's might have gone all the way |
Yeah, it's quite sad to see how far this team had fallen from the 70's through to the mid 80's. The Royals and Yankees would have epic playoff battles, with the Yankees usually coming out on top until George Brett's homer off Goose Gossage in the ALCS and sending us to the series against Philly.
1985 was special with the win over the Cardinals. Cracks me up how Cardinals fans still play the Dekinger card. They usually shut back up when I tell them that, a.) the Cardinals batted around .180, while the Royals batted close to .300 for the series; b.) yes, Orta was called safe at first; but, he was ultimately thrown out at 3rd, thus never factored into the scoring; c.) The Cardinals literally imploded in that game 6 with passed balls, and Jack Clark misjudging a pop foul; d.) Royals turned around in game 7, just destroyed their ace in John Tudor (who also broke his hand after being pulled by punching a dugout wall fan) and easily won game 7 with a score of 11-0.
All of that, and they still play the Dekinger card.

the quicker he leapfrogs Bonds.. the better. Think he will stay a Yankee after this year?
|
Oh GOD I hope so......
But honestly, I don't have a very good feeling.
The only hope is A-rod wants money, and who can give him more than the Yankees? Yea, if he leaves the team I might cry a lil....

at least the Tigers are stinking it up to a division leader.. not the pulse-less Orioles. Maybe they were inspired by the memory of Cal Jr. today hahha. Did A-Rod hit his 500th yet.... haven't checked out ESPN this evening.

its good and bad to be a Dodger fan, while we sit on top of the NL west all of our big name starters are injured: Penny, Lowe, Schimdt, Wolf and Kuo.
hopefully a couple good trades will go down (hoping to get Texeira but its doubtful considering our other needs)

Not to mention the energy he brings to the game and more importantly how great is he at 2nd base

Oh man, Chase Utley's hand is broken. I didn't think the Phillies could stay in contention to begin with, because of their poor pitching. But this really sucks, they need the offense and Utley is so important....

this is a legal, court issue, it is all about the court of public opinion. The circumstantial evidence weighs HEAVILY against him. We all know the science of masking the use far exceeds the science of testing for it (or the ability to considering the 'rights' of players)
But Barry is 43 and still playing left field!
one of the most damning of the circumstantial evidence... at that age most ball players are angling for jobs with ESPN... not smacking 50 home runs a year. From my limited understanding.. one of the most beneficial side-effects of 'roid use is the ability to bounce back from injury and the aches and pains that a 162 game schedule can inflict on the body.
