Great game by Verlander. I wouldn't be too upset about it, but the Jays also gave up 9 runs.

Canada having a baseball team makes as much sense to me as Florida having hockey teams.

^^^^^ I'm guessing you're happy about Verlander's no-hitter. I, on the other hand, am not, being that it was against Toronto.

The Tigers take 3 out of 4 from the Yankees and win the season series 4 games to 3. The season is a success no matter what else happens the rest of the year.

I was dressed something like this, except for a blue Tigers' coat instead of a red snowsuit.

Did you guys see me on TV Monday? Apparently, ESPN was showing a girl standing next to Harwell's name on the wall, and when they panned out, I was shown on TV. The cameraman was sitting acrossed the aisle from me. My 1 second of fame.

Yeah Scott, that was mainly my point
![]() Look at what good the Yanks have accomplished over the last decade. People gripe "w/e they make the playoffs every year" but you don't need a trillion dollars to do that! Also it really does drive up fan expectation. Some are just crazy b*****ds...but I know I hold ridiculously high expectations because seeing a horrid game for the Yanks is like watching a billion dollars being burned on the field! Of course a line up is better than the sum of its parts, but A-Rod really is the most sickening. When he was an all around player....well what can you argue with? Average, Power, Speed, Fielding. He's a decent fielder but has only power remaining...which means it's either HR or caught right before the fence. And it sucks to know what he makes for those results. I'm all for the cap. IMO it wouldn't hurt the Yanks at all, maybe help. Edited by JJLehto - May 04 2011 at 14:29 |

Sadly as long as there's a players union you will never see a salary cap in baseball. That would be in the best interest of the game as a whole. The monies should trickle down to the minors to allow some of the guys that will never see MLB pay to reap some of the rewards. |

You know, it is a Catch-22. I am all for players being able to get paid what the market bears, and if a team is stoopid enough to spend $50 million a year for a guy to run around in pajamas chasing a white ball around and succeeding less than 40% of the time while at the plate, then more power to them. But there is also something terribly wrong when one team has players who make more individual then the entire payroll of some other teams. As Yankee fans are quick to point out, Jeter, Posada, Rivera, and Pettite all came through the Yankee's farm system. Since then, I think Cano is the only other player that can make that claim. I guess him and a couple of pitchers like Joba and Hughes (I assume that they were drafts and not trades, but not going to check the facts on that). Watching the game last night, and seeing Andruw Jones is their bench outfielder is somewhat ridiculous; granted he is at the tale end of his career, but most teams have scrubs filling that position. And perennial injured all-star Chavez is their backup third baseman. Seriously, unless ARoid gets hurt, why do they need an all-star backup at 3rd base. Not to mention picking up former Cy Young winner Colon off of the scrap heap as their number 5 starter (to which I actually give them a bit of credit for getting lucky so far with that pickup).
I would like to see MLB be more competitive like some of the other sports that have salary caps in place, which make it at least somewhat challenging to assemble the best players under a fixed budget to win a championship. The Wings are still one of the best teams in hockey, despite the changeover to a cap. It'll be interesting to see how long that last but everyone predicted that they would become as bad as they used to be once they couldn't outspend every other team with free agent acquisitions.

I'm got him on my DL. Thank goodness I got Rickie Weeks to fall back on at 2B on my fantasy team. |
