No idea of Steven's, but Danny Cavanagh's is of Sigur Ros's Takk artwork.

I might just take a risk on it, yeah. I enjoy pretty much all of SW's other work, so I'm bound to like it.
When PT moved away from psych/space rock and into song-based structures, IEM took that over, apparently. Or so I've heard.

Well from what I have read Kashmir, the IEM stuff is supposed to be a similar sound to PT's more spacey work. The 1st album came out shortly after Signify. There's no vocals, just long jams. Sounds interesting enough to me. I know what you mean about taking a chance on it, but from my experience with Wilson releated punts, there's about an 80% of it being worth the risk. The Sky Moves Sideways was my 1st PT purchase and I'd not listened to any PT songs before that, and I wasn't dissapointed with Blackfield or his solo album, as I went about purchasing them in the same way having not listened to any songs from either effort.

Bowness is a great singer, just a little off-putting because of his dramatic vocals. It took me a while to get used to him, but now I love Schoolyard Ghosts.... a really fine album. I must see PT live soon!

^Yeah, I do like that the venues are more intimate, and you get a better view of the band at a more reasonable price. I think it may be too late for them to become mega mainstream, anyway. How many bands became household names after 20 years of existence? I certainly wouldn't want the Kings of Leon crowd catching on to PT. The Radiohead and Tool crowd, yes.
I haven't heard any Bass Communion yet. The Blackfield I have heard is very good. No Man aren't bad, but I agree that Steven has a better singing voice than Tim Bowness. I might get the limited IEM boxset, but I don't know what to expect, like yourself. I haven't heard a single note of IEM. Do I take a chance because I like Steven Wilson's other work? Maybe.

I have no Bass Communion stuff, I have tried to give it a chance but it just isn't for me. I have the Best Of No-Man, but apart from the last track (which has an amazing guitar solo from Robert Fripp) on the first disc I don't really care for the rest. I actually think SW has a better voice than the guy singing. Blackfield 1 & 2 are great, for anyone wondering what Blackfield is about, imagine Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun era PT, minus the proggier/heavier moments.
Really looking forward to IEM as I have no idea what it's going to sound like, hopefully I won't be dissapointed.
Great to hear feedback about the different age groups by the way.
To all those of you who seem to be a little upset that PT aren't mainstream, 1. SW has always said that he didn't want PT to be mainstream 2. It's a good thing that they aren't because ticket prices would double, if not triple, and you'd have loads of annoying people going on about them who have only heard the latest 'breakthrough' album, and when you try to explain that they have actually been going for 20 years they just look at you funny, similar to what happened when the Kings Of Leon sold out whith there awful 4th album that every indie kid and his/her mum loves.
I like PT the way they are because you will ALWAYS be able to introduce them to people knowing that they will be amazed at how good they are, puzzled as to why they have never heard of them before.

^I still need to get some Bass Communion; other than that, I've worked through as much of PT's discog as realistically possible, all of Blackfield's, about 2/3's of no-man's, SW's solo album and all the Cover Versions, and the IEM boxset is on order...
Feel like such a fanboy to think about all of the stuff I have from one man, but it's all been really high quality stuff. No complaints as far as disappointment or anything like it... Other than extreme aural pleasure |

Yeah I collect all of PTs side projects as well. It can be expensive being a PT fanboy. I wear my PT shirt all the time, providing free advertising for the band, doing my part

The Incident did actually put in a pretty valiant chart showing, yeah. As you say, I suspect it may have been fanboys buying them up as soon as it came out (I got mine the day it hit the shelves), but number 24. That is an impressive effort, when you consider their first album to chart on the Billboard 200 (Deadwing) wallowed away in the lower echelons of the 100s. This tells us that either they are gaining many new fans, and the word of mouth is spreading; or that the existing fans are getting even more rabid, and ordering 20 copies each instead of one, and distributing them from the rooftops! So if the Incident got that high, the next album may finally be the one to crack into the top twenty. One suspects all it would take for the kids to pick up on PT is if Roadrunner managed to get a few tracks into a Guitar Hero game.

Hehe. Its not just PT. I have all the NoMan/Blackfield/Steven Wilson,A few Bass Communion, ExWiseHeads,John Wesley,Theo Travis ! It goes on...
I have seen PT live twice, both times we had to travel half way across the country because they didn't come to our city.Took the wife the first time and we loved it -good crowd.Second time I took my son and he loved it too - huge crowd all ages and a LOT more women. My guess is that everyone that saw them the first time brought their partners for the second show a couple of years later. It was actually rather packed and next time they would probably require a bigger venue.
If I wear a PT tshirt and someone asks me who they are, I reply "the best band you've never heard!"

Also, an email from John Wesley:
Hi Everyone, It has been a while since I have sent out an update and I wanted to touch base and let you all in on the latest news. The last year has been filled with so much -- between touring with Porcupine Tree, writing for my new album, and moving my recording studio -- I've had my hands quite full. First off...I am going back on tour with Porcupine Tree for the summer festivals all over Europe. Check the link here for dates: http://www.porcupinetree.com/tour.cfm While out on tour, I've been posting regular updates on Twitter and Facebook. You can sign up to follow me on Twitter or Facebook for my (almost) daily tour updates here: http://twitter.com/johnwesleymusic http://www.facebook.com/johnwesleymusic Next on the agenda is the continued progress of my next set of recordings. My plan is to release an initial 10 song set that consists of full band arrangements entitled, "disconnect". Work is taking place on this in between my heavy Porcupine Tree touring schedule and I hope to be finished by the end of the summer. So far, final drum and bass tracks are complete and I'm spending all of my time until the next Porcupine Tree touring leg tracking guitars. As in my past releases, Mark Prator is on drums and Andy Irvine and Dave Wehner on bass. Also, I have been working with Dean Tidey, who has been on hundreds of records and spent the last ten years touring with the UK band "Feeder." Dean is producing my new songs and playing guitar as well. I'm very excited about this collaboration and I think the results will be worth the wait. I have big plans for releases this year! This first set of 10 songs will be followed up by an EP (electric/acoustic) and another EP (all acoustic) by the end of the year. Additionally, I am in the process of mixing and mastering tracks from my performance at the 2009 Marillion Canadian Convention for a new download only release, which will soon be available in my download store. More information will be available about that soon! I have been in a really productive writing phase and now just need to find the time to get it all recorded. The Porcupine Tree touring has been so successful, that finding time to finish the solo work has been a challenge. Also, in the past few months, Mark Prator and I moved our studio business, RedRoom Recorders to a new location... come and take look... www.redroomrecorders.com. Last year while supporting Marillion at the Canadian Convention in Montreal, I had the chance to play with the band Sun Domingo. They recently released a recording of their shows in Montreal called "LIVE in Montreal / Marillion Weekend 2009" through Racket Records. I really think you will love this band if you didn't get a chance to hear them, and they are giving away a few tracks for FREE download here: http://bit.ly/sundomingo Also, I played on one of the tracks from on their upcoming studio release "PIECE EP," and the track is "MadMaze" which is set to release on June 22nd from Rock Ridge Music. You can find more info at www.sundomingo.com ... hope you enjoy! I hope to see you all out on tour somewhere soon...stay well... John Wesley And, if you guys don't know already, his entire solo discography is available for free, legal download on his homepage: http://www.john-wesley.com/Downloads.html |

^Hmmm, that's a little odd. Are you sure you put in the right email address and everything?
If you got a payment confirmation email when you ordered, you should give Burning Shed an email to ask if yours has been shipped yet... |

My standard edition arrived today!
So for those wondering, it took only 4 days from the time of my shipment email to get from the UK to USA. I think that's pretty good. Looks tasty, but I won't watch it till Saturday night when I can "get in the proper mood" for such a cool dvd. |

Today I had one of those wonderful moments when something clicks and you love a song all of a sudden, with the masterpiece that is Anesthetize. I can't stop listening to it. Wonderful song, especially the middle section.

In all honesty, "The Incident" debuted at 24 on the Billboard chart. Yeah, I realize that it was mostly fanboys buying the CD the day it came out, but still, that's a pretty good showing, especially for a prog band. I expect the next one to be bigger, possibly even the heralded 'breakthrough' album. Once that happens...well, I can only imagine "Anesthetize" being played in an arena through a billion dollar sound system while a multi million dollar stage / light show goes on a-la a Genesis or Rush show...I for one can't wait.
