Specifically the clips were Devil Went down to Georgia, Stand By Your Man, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, and even Joe Sat's The Extremist, and Winonas got a big brown weaver by Primus!

I do recall a couple of my older relatives who served in WW II expressing their dislike for that show. My Uncle Tad was a POW under the Germans, he was 'liberated' by the Russians who treated him worse. He was pretty vocal about how disrespectful he thought the show was. Ok, sorry to get superficial on such a heavy topic, but I'm curious. Could a show like Hogan's Heroes be shown on network television now? A show which showed the Nazis in such a humorous and playful light? It amazes me that it is such an innocent presentation of them, there is no alluding to the horror. I have to wonder about the reaction of media watchers of the period and what they thought. I understand that war has often been portrayed in such a casual light, but the Nazis themselves, in such pure humor, with no message of the atrocities?

I would recommend to anybody the movie "Escape From Sobibor", the story of the biggest successful prisoner revolt of WW2. Such is the brave spirit of the Jews in the Sobibor Death Camp, who amid overwhelming odds, had a prison break where about 300 prisoners successfully escaped.
Afterwards, Himmler had the camp torn down, with trees planted, but to this day, there stands a monument to the dead, and to the courage of those that escaped |
