Doug Ferguson, not because he's the best, but because is the most underrated. 
In the non-prog world, Michael Manring is an excellent bassist, IMO.

From the list I go with Squire but I really like this lesser known bass player, Julie Slick.

Sad but true, though it seems he's putting up a brave fight. Great bassist, and great band, in spite of the naysayers or those who think they're just a 'synth-pop' act.

Ray Schulman is probably the bassist who has influenced me the most in my playing and writing of bass lines.

Great list, IvanThumbs Up! As voting for Squire or Pastorius would be way too obvious, I've chosen one of my personal idols - Richard Sinclair, who is also my favourite prog vocalist. Anyway, I am surprised at the inclusion of Giorgio Piazza rather than Patrick Djivas... He's one of the very best bassists I have ever heard (just check his work on Area's Arbeit Macht Frei), yet people seem to forget him way too easily.

Mike is good and a pioneer of the Taurus Pedals, who can deny it, but never believed he is the level of the top 5 I mentioned, Geddy Lee, Jeff Berlin and a few others who are the peak of the crop (Including John Myung, despite I'm not remotely a fan of Dream Theater).
 
Of course he's underrated, but still not enough to be considered a one of the bassists in the lonely peak.

Yes, I'm a fan of Wetton since I heard the UK albums, but when I listened Red (after listening UK), his performance really blew my brains, specially in "Starless".
 
But imagine how good Gary Thain was, that a monster like Wetton, couldn't fit his shoes.
