jajaja, it would be Eminem when he was at the peak of the genre, IMO.

I like At The Drive-In, Jimmy Eat World, The Fire Theft. Do any of those count? My brother is really into old-school rap and from what I hear I can't say it's the best stuff on the planet, although it is way better that new-school "gangster rap" because at least the gentlemen rapping are intelligent and prove worthy points. So I guess I like "emo" better, but I really can't vote.

old emo from what I've heard is pretty decent (admittedly only really heard At the Drive In and snippets of other bands, not sure how much that counts)
new "emo" as in really POP PUNK is meeeeeeeh at best and eeeeeeeeek at worst
rap can run the gambit : there's moronic rappers as there are moronic rockers. Poison is equivalent to 50 Cent in my eyes. However, Saul Williams has proved to me there's something good in nearly in everything, and I'm still trying to find some rap that's more in an intelligent vein

I think there's an incredible amount of ignorance and misinformed statements in this thread.

Depends on how you define emo. Actually it doesn't. Rap is worse than both original emo and the modern "emo"

Emo. I just can't stand any of those bands... On the other hand, stuff like 50 Cent and specially Eminem is actually very good. My bro has all Eminem albums, and I remember I enjoyed them (Cleaning Out My Closet and that song with Dido are great). Oh, and how can we forget Without Me, Slim Shady, etc etc. I enjoy it these days.

Well I ought to search about what groups are Emo or not because if I compare 30 secs to mars with eminem ,50 cents ..I prefer 3o secs to mars but I dont like the 90% of bands of new breed or similar to 30 secs to mars.

Why not? You're not going to die trying and you'll gain more music to enjoy. It isn't a sin to like hip-hop or emo either. What will you loose trying?
|
I know, it's just everytime hip hop songs sounds the same, and the more I listen to it the less I can concentrate on it, and at the end of the day, I realise how bad it sounded.
I do respect underground rap like immortal technique and Jedi mind tricks though.

Rap's been a long time dying.
Conjecture: more stratified society = more people living (and dying) the gangsta style = more popularity for rap

None is worse.
I'm a huge fan of hip-hop (I've been listening to it more than prog this year alone) and I like some songs and bands from the "emo" scene most notably 30 Seconds to Mars.
It's better to enjoy music rather than dissing it. Why not explore both genres a bit? I'm pretty sure you'll like at least 1 artists from them.

Tuz, have you ever heard any Emo on any Polish radio? I had to go to a band's Myspace to find out what the stuff actually is, it seems totally absent from any local media.
