^It might help if each post includes the verse/line number at the bottom.

Agreed, it's tough enough keeping the 50 "come sail away" choruses straight. If there's one thing I've learned in my short time on this big ball of dirt...never leave a job undone. The follow up should be a poll to vote on the best rewritten song lyrics. |

And maybe it's more elegant to wait with a new # till the previous one is over...?

Keeping it short and easy rhyming, I'm casting #14: My Sharona.

The problem with that is people get bored or unresponsive if it goes on too long. I saw that happening with Pirates. Best to keep them shorter and with lines can be easily reworked. Just my $0.02 worth.

Fun! I'd like to suggest Young Americans. Lots-o-words in that one.

Sultans don't swing no more! Come Sail Away with us for #13! Great choice ! Yesterday I almost listened to The Grand Illusion, but I chose Pieces of Eight instead...

Why something boring in the "Just for Fun" section? Well, because of the recent mini-milestone of our 10th Rewriting success (!), I thought it might be a good idea to keep track of all the efforts so far. This can be helpful for those drinking too much and forgetting what they have been working on, as well as for those new to this kind of challenge in order to know what has been done before and to decide if they're up to the high standards of these Rewriting Classics talents that have been emerging recently... Also, this can be the place for suggestions, requests, discussion, criticism (what? Criticism? What for? Everything is perfect...), announcing one of those fancy democratic polls to decide upon a next Rewriting challenge, etc. etc. Join us in the effort, together we're strong! For those discovering the major endeavour of Rewriting Classics and feel tempted to show their talents, here's a short reminder of the rules: 1. One line per post (to stimulate the collaborative aspect). 2.
It has to sound a bit like the original (rhyme, sounding like... like
kids who mimic a song without knowing what they're actually singing). 3. It also has to fit the number of feet of the verses (more or less). 4. Same length as the original song. 5.
If in the original song there are some repetitions, it is up to the
person whose turn it is to go that way or not: to repeat or not to repeat, that's no question. And: In a good prog tradition, the lyrics don't necessarily have to make much sense...The Rewriting successes so far: Rewriting classics... #1: Hotel California (The Eagles) Rewriting classics... #2: Pirates (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) Rewriting classics... #4: Walk This Way (Aerosmith) Rewriting classics... #5: In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins) Rewriting classics... #7: In the Court of the Crimson King (King Crimson) Rewriting classics... #8: The Logical Song (Supertramp) Rewriting classics... #10: Lazy (Deep Purple) Rewriting classics... #11: Time (Pink Floyd) Rewriting classics... #12: Sultans Of Swing (Dire Straits) Rewriting classics... #15: Poker (Electric Light Orchestra) Rewriting classics... #16: Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) Rewriting classics... #17: Stairway To Heaven (Led Zeppelin) Rewriting classics... #18: Kayleigh (Marillion) Rewriting classics... #21: Rocky Mountain Way (Joe Walsh) Rewriting classics... #23: Lucky Man (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) Rewriting classics... #24: Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel) Rewriting classics... #25: Wuthering Heights (Kate Bush) Rewriting classics... #26: Down Under (Men At Work) Rewriting classics... #27: Under My Wheels (Alice Cooper) Rewriting classics... #28: Love is the Drug (Roxy Music) (This list will be updated as we're going...)
